“Baby, stop crying please. I’m sorry.”
Bright doesn’t know why is he apologizing. But his guts tell him it is the right thing to do.
“tell me Bright, when is the last time we sit together in our mini cinema, watching Avengers on weekends? Ever since you inherited that damn company, how many times have you ever celebrate any birthdays and anniversaries with me and Light?”
Strange, Bright tries to remember his appearance on those events. But none of recent memories come across his minds. Except that one time they excitedly watched Spiderman movie for the first time in their new built mini cinema and his last birthday celebration with Win was way before they had Light.
“When was the last time you love me Bright?” Win asks in defeat.
His long gone insecurities come back like they used too. Win’s head is very dizzy and his body feels too heavy for him to support himself.
So Win tiredly sit on their dining table, feeling really exhausted. His headache pains him but Bright’s ignorance kills him even more.“This year, Light broke his arms when he was playing soccer and he got 12 stiches at the back of his head after two karate competitions. He was homeschooled for 6 months.”
Bright gulps. This is the first time he hears about Light’s accidents, he never noticed any one of those. Did he really never care?
“why haven’t you tell me anything Win? I should have known.”
Win steps towards a black table opposite the entrance door.
“I had, but I guess you never listen Bright. Even your son thought you hate him. He felt unloved and uncared by his own dad. That five-year-old boy determined to be excellent in everything so he can prove to his busy dad that he is worth of his dad’s time. Light hopes for you to notice him Bright.”
Although Win spends most of time with his son, he still cannot imagine how much hurt does Light is feeling deep down in his big pure heart.
Win grabs Light’s gold medal and throws at Bright. Clumsily, Bright manages to catch. He looks at the gold medal and a warm feeling blooms inside his chest.
“Do you know why we accept all your goddamn presents? It is because at least, we were wrong when we thought you completely forgot about us.”
Win totters passes Bright up to the stairs. Their shoulders bump into each other-the closest distance they ever been in almost 2 years-
Win is already half way to Light’s bedroom but he stops on his tracks for a moment.“Light loves you. He wants to eat breakfast with you tomorrow.”
On spur of moment, the world around Bright cease. He hasn’t listen the word ‘love’ for so long. Heck, he didn’t remember the last time he said ‘I love you’ to anyone. Has he really did forget about his loved ones?
Stunned by his unnoticed self-changes, Bright blurts out
“I love him. I love you too. I really love both of you.” His heart pounds for nth times that night, Bright doesn’t know why but he is scared. As if the strong safety walls that he built inside of him breaks, allowing empty darkness seeps into his heart. That feeling is so cold, so wrong. He didn’t like it.
On the other hand, Win should be glad that Bright said he still love him and Light right? But that night, it sounds too foreign for him.
“tell him yourself Bright. Tell him tomorrow. Win left Bright alone.
Instantly, Bright feels guilty towards Win and his son. At 7 am, he will be going to the airport, departing to Paris for a business trip.
“of course. I’ll tell him tomorrow.” Bright lies, again.
