Chapter 17

Amara's POV

Voicemail again! I've called Vanessa 5 times already and it's gone on voicemail every single time. I quickly text Nadia that I was going home to freshen up and I'll be back in an hour. Had she really figured out who C is? 

I get into the car and quickly drive out of the hospital. My mind racing with thoughts, how had she figured it out? Why was she not picking up my phone? Had something happened to her? Had C got to her before me? 

I run out of the car and ring the bell a few times before knocking really loudly. The door opens and I see Vanessa.

"Why aren't you picking up my calls?" I shout as I walk into her house.

"Sorry! I gave it to Jake and he probably dropped it somewhere!" Jake was her 5-year-old adorable brother who I could see was running around the house. 

"AMARA!" He runs and hugs me. 

"Hi, little one." I hug him back. He runs off before I could say anything else.

"Okay let's go upstairs." I follow Vanessa up to her room. "How's Pandora?" 

"She has a broken arm and a concussion but other than that she's okay. She hasn't woken up yet." I sigh. 

"Okay, so I don't know why we didn't figure this out sooner and this just came to me today. It's Connor." 

My face pales. "No, it can't be." 

"Why not? Everything makes sense! Firstly Connor's name begins with C." She points out. 

"That's a coincidence," I argue back. 

"Okay, what about the notes? You started getting them and then out of the blue Connor wants a second chance with you! He was one of the few people who knew you had a date that same day!" She continues giving evidence. "He was obviously angry at being rejected twice by you so he followed you on the date."

I was speechless. Things started falling in place. 

"Then you told him about the notes and didn't he give you the idea about how to get C to contact you?" I nod.

"So then he knew what to reply to make sure you didn't get onto him! And now the biggest piece that fits the puzzle. You said you threw my chunky heels at C and it hit him on his hip and side of his head right?" I nod again. "DIDN'T YOU TELL US  THAT CONNOR HAD THIS MASSIVE BRUISE ON HIP?" She yells out in triumph. 

"Oh fuck. You're right!" I stand up in realisation! "He had a bruise right in the same place where I had hit C! And he was at the hospital today," I whisper the last part.

"Hospital?" Vanessa looks confused.

"Pandora's accident wasn't just a random drunk driver who had hit her! It was C I mean Connor's way of 'punishing' me. There was a note on my windshield and Connor was there too. Said some bullshit about visiting his grandma." 

"It was right in front of our eyes and we never saw it." Vanessa pulls me for a hug. 

"Now we can put an end to this nightmare."

Even though it felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders, I was angry. He had gone over the line and had hurt my sister. I'm going to take this to the authorities as soon as Pandora gets out of the hospital. 

We were still waiting for Pandora to wake up. I left Van's house after having a shower there and changing. The doctors said she was on heavy painkillers so it had knocked her out for so long. 

"She has woken up. You can go to meet her. But only two at a time." The nurse says suddenly and I break out of my trance. Mum and Dad jump and run into her room. A sigh of relief leaves me and I lean back into the uncomfortable chair. Liam and Nadia were talking about something.
