Newt's POV

We finally got out. We fought the bloody grievers, punched in the shuck code, and now we are making our way through several hallways. Unfortunately, we lost about half of our people, but we made it.

Now I just have to find Eve. If she's anywhere to be found, that is. To be honest, I really was hoping that I would get some sort of message from her when we were still in the glade. Something to help us. But nothing came. And eventually Thomas and Teresa figured out a code, Minho and Thomas found the griever hole, and we escaped.

But I promised Eve that if she didn't save me, I would save her. And that's exactly what I'm going to. Hope that she is alive and well only hangs by a thread, but it is there.

I see Thomas and Minho look at each other up ahead. They're in front of a door. Once they exchange glances, they open the door, and people start shuffling in to a new corridor. I hold up the back of the line, making sure no one is left behind and also watching our backs.

I hear a few gasps and whispers up ahead that make me curious as to what I am about to witness. Once I enter the small hallway, I see it. Bodies, dead on the floor.

But we ignore it and make our way through. There is no time to stop and investigate. We need to find living people, or just something that can help us.

That is when we found a large control room.

"Guys, look," Minho says as everyone starts making their way into the technology filled area.

"What is all of this for?" Chuck asks.

I see Teresa and Thomas look at each other for a moment. Maybe they know about all of these machines, possibly how they work. But it doesn't really matter.

Screens and computers line the walls. More computers and some sort of big holographic map that includes other information take up the center. More bodies.

"Wow," I let out in a sigh. A few sparks fly from different electric-powered machines. Half of it is damaged.

As I further look around the room, I notice a single door. I walk over to it and open it.

It is another corridor, but these doors have little plastic things on them, where you can slide in a tag. All of them are empty except one.

I make my way up to it and read the tag,

The Mistake

None of it really makes sense, but I open the door anyway.

The entire room is white, the artificial light in the ceiling adding a yellow glow. There is nothing here but a white bed.

At first I don't see it, but there is a body laying in the bed. I slowly make my way over to it, trying to be quiet and courteous.

The person is not dead, at least there is no visible blood as far as I can see.

I make it all the way to the side of the bed and-

"Eve!" I whisper-yell but I don't move. Is she alive? Is it really her?

She looks relaxed and peaceful. Her hands are folded on top of her waist, long brown waves of hair cascade down both of her sides in neat lines. She looks graceful.

I notice her steady breathing, and I am relieved that she is not dead.

I get down on both knees next to her bed and put a hand on her arm, "Eve. Please wake up. Eve... Eve?"

She doesn't move. I just stay there for a while, looking at how beautiful she is.

"Eve plea-"
