I lay in a hospital bed. This is a memory.
"She's perfect. This is perfect, a genius addition to the trials," a man says. My eyes are closed and I can't move.
"I agree. But... can she hear us?" a woman asks hesitantly.
"Who cares. She's going to forget it all anyway," the man says.
What are they talking about? I know that they're talking about me, but...
"That boy though. What do you think will happen when she sees him in Group A?" the woman says. Are they talking about Newt?
"I thought she was being sent to Group B first," the man questions.
Wait a second. I was sent to Group B before?! Is that why my tattoo says I'm Group B?
"She is. But when she goes to Group A... You don't think anything will happen between them do you?" the woman says worriedly.
"Jane, we are WICKED. This is the most qualified, intelligent, important organization in the world. We have so many different technologies and powers to control these little brats. There is nothing to worry about," the man says.
"Yeah I guess your right..." the woman says.
They're obviously talking about Newt and I. But was I sent to Group B first? What is this?!
The memory fades out and a new one starts.
"Okay girls, you're all ready." A grown woman with hair and eyes identical to mine says. She says this between sniffs from obvious recent crying. Mother.
I'm an unseen observer in this memory. I see myself as very young, maybe six. I am holding hands with a girl only a little shorter than me. She has my eyes too, but she has a lighter shade of hair. My sister.
"Mother, why do we have to go?" my sister asks. Though it's on the tip of my tongue, I cannot remember her name.
"Because sweetheart. I want you to be safe," Mother says. I feel a pain in my heart.
"But you said we won't get sick..." it was my little self this time, "like Father."
Mother swallows her feelings and takes a moment to gather her bearings and then finally says her last words, "Listen my girls. You won't get sick, I promise you. But that does not mean that you are safe. WICKED can keep you safe. They will be here shortly."
Then a knock is heard on the door and Mother answers it. A man waits outside, but does not come in. Mother gets her two children and hands them over to the man.
"Take. Care. Of. My. Babies," Mother tells the man sternly.
"Ma'am, you have made the right decision. Your children are in good hands," the man says and starts to walk away with my sister and I trailing behind.
As we make our way down the sidewalk, I rip my hand from my sister's and start running back to my mother, who stands on the porch sobbing.
"Eve!" my sister shouts.
"Mother!" I yell and run to her.
But the man grabs me and picks me up, grabs my sister's arm, and drags us both to his vehicle hastily.
"Mother!" I scream at the top of my lungs, kicking and squirming in the man's tight grip.
The last thing I see is my mother having a melt down on the front porch.

"Eve!" Newt is yelling at me. Yelling my name and shaking me violently.
I sit up straight, gasping for air. I look around the room, and notice every person in sight is staring straight at me.
I ignore them and turn my attention back to Newt, "What? What happened?" For some reason I'm completely out of breath.
"You were screaming bloody murder and kicking your legs," Newt says as if it's the most obvious thing known to the human race.
I must have been acting out my nightmare. Surely putting on a show for everyone in the room.
"Sorry. I had a nightmare... Well a memory actually," I sat quietly. I don't want anyone to hear but Newt.
"We can talk about it later, but it's time to go," he says and takes my hand.
It's time. It's time to pass through the Flat Trans and start new trials.
"Ready?" Newt asks.
"Ready as I'll ever be," I say and Newt helps me off the bunk bed. Deja Vu.
We walk out to the common area where some of the Gladers are already standing. Everyone gets their food supplies and lines up.
Minho in the front, Thomas in the back to make sure everyone makes it past. Newt in front of Thomas, and I in front of Newt. I admit, I am a little nervous to pass through the Flat Trans. Just anxious to see what it looks and feels like.
Eventually it shows up and it's like a silver wall, waiting for us.
"See you shanks on the other side," Minho says. And then it all happens at once.
Minho steps through, and then everyone starts shuffling through, hesitant at first, and then fast. The line moves quick and before I know it, I'm next.
I almost step through when Newt grabs my hand. I look back at him, he squeezes it, and then let's go.
"See you on the other side," I say. And then I step in.
It feels cold and tingly, weird. But it only lasts for a split second and then everything is dark.
I hear the other guys talking.
"Eve? That you?" I hear Minho say.
"Yeah, it's me. Why's it so dark?" I ask.
Before Minho could answer Newt and Thomas step through.
"Eve?" I hear Newt say.
"Yes?" I ask.
I suddenly feel hands on my shoulders and it makes me jump.
"Is that you?" Newt asks.
I laugh and tell him it's me.
"Let's count," Minho announced, "There should be twenty-one of us. One!"
"Two!" Thomas yelled.
"Three!" I continued, and eventually the last person called out twenty-one.
"Good that," Minho said, "We're all here, wherever here is. Can't see a shuck thing."
"Too bad we don't have a flashlight," Thomas stated and Minho came back with a smart ass remark. The usual.
Then he got more serious, "All right, listen up. We're in some kind of hallway- I can feel the walls on both sides, and as far as I can tell, most of you are to my right. Thomas, where you're standing is where we came in. We better not take any chances of accidentally going back through the Flat Trans thingamajiggy, so everyone follow my voice and come toward me. Not much choice but to head down this way and see what we find."
Minho started to walk away from the Flat Trans, and everyone started following as instructed. Sounds of whispers and shuffling feet filled the mysterious hallway, and I started walking myself..
I felt a quick tight grip on my forearm. At first I panicked, but then I reminded myself that I had nothing to worry about with the boys around me. Besides, I could tell by the long, rough fingers, and protectiveness, it was Newt.
"I want you next to me from now on," he whispered.
Although he couldn't see it, I nodded. And I slowly pulled my arm from his grasp and reached for his hand.
A/N: DOUBLE UPDATE because I forgot to update on the supposed official schedule (I apologize in advance, shanks)
