(A/N): So, hello again, it's me! After a whole year, I'd be surprised who's sticking around. And hello to you new people, who are just reading this now. You may not know but I've been working on this thing since 2014. I can't believe I'm back at it, but I'm excited! I'm really ready to evolve Eve's character this time around. Enough rambling, here we go. :)

Once we get all the Gladers up and out, we set off straight away. The Scorch is unbelievable. A vast desert of immense dry heat. Sand seems to consume the earth. But up ahead is the city, which is where we are headed.

I stay in the middle of the group and watch Minho, Newt, and Thomas converse at the front, the golden trio.

The more I learn about Thomas the more our whole situation becomes more complicated to me. His telepathy communication abilities with Teresa both blow my mind and frighten me at the same time.

But the fact that the Flare is eating away at my brain as well as the brains of those I care about scares me ten times more than these super powers my peers possess. Seeing that first crank the day we "escaped" changed me. Then continuing to see a mob of them at the dormitory made it even more different, and not in a good way. At all.

Life in the Glade was nothing compared to the grand scheme of things we now know of. Sometimes I revert to my teenage-girl way of thinking. Usually at night before I fall asleep, or when I'm having a good time with my friends, or when I look at Newt. I forget about all that's happening around me, and that temporary ignorance is bliss. Then when I snap back to reality, I almost feel bad for myself. I feel bad for the people around me. We're young adults who are involuntarily being used for experiments. And we don't even know why.

I'm consumed in thought as we trudge through the desert, when I feel fingertips slide down the inside of my forearm and into my hand. Newt locks his hand in mine.

"What's on your mind?" he asks.

I force a laugh and say, "What isn't?"

He doesn't say anything and when I look up to him he's already looking down at me. The sky that surrounds him is now a deeper shade of blue, and when I look out onto the horizon I see beautiful and vibrant colors.

"Sunset, one of the few beautiful things left in this world," Newt says in a hushed voice, he brings my hand up to his mouth and gives it a kiss.

A very loud scream of terror rips through the air. A woman's voice. Newt's grip on my hand tightens and the group stops in its tracks.

Everyone looks around, but there is no sign of anyone we don't know of. Everyone is silent until Minho speaks up, "Let's stop here, eat something get a little rest. Then we'll keep moving."

So we do, we all take a seat and a bite as we listen to the mysterious wailing woman.

Some people are frightened, some just down right annoyed, I'm on the in between. But once the group is finished with our little break, we set out once again towards the city.

The buildings appear closer and the screams louder. Until we get to the point where it's deafening, and a building becomes very close.

The screams come to an abrupt stop as we approach the shady little place. Then a dark haired girl steps outside.

Everyone starts to move but Thomas orders us to stop, "I want to go. Alone. It may be a trap."

He thinks it's Teresa.

No one says a word as Thomas leaves the group for this mysterious girl and her mysterious shack.
