I woke up, yawned, stretched, and took a look around the room.

Teresa wasn't there, but her blankets were tousled about. I found some clothes in one of the dressers and took them into the shower room.

I heard the toilet flush, and figured out where she was.

I undressed, turned on the shower, and closed the curtain. I heard the bathroom door close and footsteps. They faded out and apparently she went back to bed.

I took a quick shower and dressed. I combed my hair out and fish-tailed it. For some reason it was a mastered skill I had. The neat braid stretched all the way to my waist.

I walked out to where our beds were. I saw a person in Teresa's bed, but they didn't look like Teresa.

"Um... Teresa?" I asked.

A boy sat up and stared at me.

"Who the hell are you?!" I shouted.

"Woah, calm down lady," the kid said. He was probably about my age.

"I asked a question, shank," I shouted and started walking toward him.

He put his hands up as if surrendering, "Alright! My name is Aris."

"Where is Teresa... Aris?" I asked, more like demanded.

"I don't know. I don't know what your talking about. I don't even know who Teresa is," he tells me like I speak a foreign language.

"Well how did you get here?! You weren't here last night!" I shout, getting irritated.

"I don't know! Okay! Some people with guns rescued us from the maze, put me here last night, and I just woke up about twenty minutes ago. That's all I know," he says.

"Wait a second... Did you just say maze?" I asked, not believing my ears.

The kid nodded, and I immediately calmed. He wasn't lying.

I resist the urge to pound him with more questions. "Okay, I believe you. And we have a lot to talk about, but as for now, we need to get out of here," I say and walk up to the door.

I attempt to open it, but it's locked. From the outside. I yank on it as hard as I can several times, but it doesn't budge. I let out a loud groan and kick the door in frustration.

"Hey... Aris! Get over here and help me open this door!" I yell.

I jerk at the handle a few times more as Aris makes his way over.

"Here, let me try," he says and I move out of the way. He gives it a couple yanks but the door doesn't budge.

Aris lets out a huff of disappointment and looks around the room.

"Throw me that extinguisher," he says and points at a bright red fire extinguisher across the room.

I run over and grab it, then give it to him. It takes about five whacks, but eventually he breaks the handle off.

I kick the door open into darkness and a horrific smell.

"Hey!" I hear someone shout from the abyss.

I look at Aris, who looks like a scared puppy.

"Give me that," I say and yank the extinguisher out of his shaking hands.

"Who is it?" I shout and start making my way into the darkness, holding the fire extinguisher as my weapon.

"Eve? Is that you?" it's Newt. His voice has always been recognizable to me.

"Yes! Why is it so dark out here?" I ask. I feel blind.

"I don't know. I'm trying to find the light swi-" there is a semi-loud noise that comes from down the hallway that cuts Newt off. A groan follows.

"Table... Watch out for tables," he says, and I stifle a laugh.

I hear a mere yelp from someone, "What the-" it's Minho this time.

"What? What is it?" I ask.

"There's something... weird hanging from the ceiling. It'd be a lot easier if there were some shucking light in he-"

"Found it!" Newt announces and a flick cuts off Minho's sass. Brightness fills the room, or hallway. An automatic change from what it was just a second ago.

"Woah!" Minho yells.

I gave my eyes a moment to adjust, but then I saw them. People. Hanging from the ceiling with ropes around their necks.

And the longer I studied the purple, bloated skin, wide eyes, and pale tongues, the more these carcasses became recognizable.

I saw Thomas drop to his knees right when I realized it; that these dead bodies were our rescuers from last night.

I muffled a shriek that escaped my mouth with a trembling hand, backing away from the dead people. I didn't want to see it, but I just couldn't look away.

"Tommy," I heard Newt say. I looked to my right, and not only saw Minho and Newt surrounding Thomas, but a few other Gladers down the hall throwing up everywhere.

I gagged a few times and my knees gave out.

"Eve!" Newt yelled and ran over to me.

He was about to crouch down next to me, but I held out a shaking hand to stop him, still gagging.

Eventually I stopped, and said, "No... no, I'm fine."

He helped me up and took me with him back over to Thomas. Thomas looked horrific, doubled over with his eyes shut. Like he was in some sort of miserable pain. But he slowly stood and explained, "I tried to reach her in my mind but... I can't."

I gasped and took Newt by the shoulders, "Teresa is gone! I forgot to tell you but she's gone, come on I need to show you."

I dragged Newt into my dorm with Minho and Thomas following behind and we all looked at Aris, who was just sitting in a chair.

"Who are you?" Thomas asked. He sounded disgusted, like he didn't want anything to do with him. And because Aris technically replaced Teresa, he probably didn't.

"Who am I?" Aris responded a little too sarcastic, "Who are you?"

Newt started making his way toward Aris, and I tried to grab his arm but missed. I decided it was alright.

"Don't bloody mess around. There a lot more of us than there are of you. Tell us who you are," I knew it was the wrong place and time, but when Newt said that, I couldn't stop thinking about how attracted I was to his voice when it got all serious and protective.

But I broke from my thoughts. "His name is Aris," I said right before Aris had the chance himself.

They all turned toward me, giving surprised looks.

"He was here when I woke up. I asked him a few questions, but not many because I wanted out of here. His name is Aris and he came from the maze too," I informed them all.

"Thanks for telling my life story," Aris said, once again a little too sarcastically. That's when I officially had enough of his attitude.

"You know what-" I started to say as I shoved my way towards him, about to give him a taste of my knuckles. But Newt grabbed me just in time.

"Hold your horses, love," Newt said, gently pulling me back and chuckling.

"You better sit down, I'm sure we have a lot to talk about," Thomas said and everyone started making their way into the room.
