A/N: I'm sorry I haven't updated in a while. I was almost done with the chapter, and it somehow got deleted. Very frustrating, because this part of the book is extremely boring to both read and write, so having to do it all over again is not the least bit fun.
Question: When should I end this book? In the actually series, we would already be on The Scorch Trials right now, so I feel like I should end it soon. I do plan on making a sequel and probably another one after that.
A loud yell made everyone stop. At first it was a scream of surprise or shock, but turned into an ear-splitting shriek of bloody murder.
I felt someone push past me toward the person yelling. A lot of commotion occurred on the ground in front of me, and then the yelling came to an abrupt stop and all was silent.
By the way the body felt when if shoved past me, and the sounds of the person on the ground, I was pretty sure it was Thomas who went toward the screaming person.
"Thomas?" I called out into the silence.
No answer. "Thomas? What happened?! Are you okay?!" Minho yelled.
He finally answered and said, "I... I don't know. Who- Who was down there screaming?"
Frypan was able to answer the question, "Frankie, I think. He was just making a joke, and then it was like something yanked him away. Yeah, it was him. Definitely him."
"Thomas. What happened?" Minho said more sternly, pushing for answers.
He took in a deep, shaky breath, "Look, I heard him screaming, so I ran up here to help. I jumped on him, trying to pin his arms down. I tried to grab his cheeks, I don't even know why, and I all I felt was..." he trailed off.
"What?!" Minho shouted impatiently.
"His head wasn't a head. It was like... like a big metal ball. I don't know man, but that's what it felt like... like a big metal ball!" Thomas said.
The whole idea sounded so completely absurd, I almost felt like Thomas was making a joke out of the kid's death. But I knew he was telling the truth. He had to be.
"What are you talking about?" Minho said.
"Like his head had been sliced off by the metal ball," Thomas said.
Then there was silence. No one said anything. I didn't know if it was a moment for Frankie, or if everyone was just shocked and scared. Either one, I wasn't making a noise either. I felt bad that I had never even heard of the boy named Frankie.
"We need to run. Now." Thomas said. And we did.
~
After running for quite a while, Minho called for everyone to stop.
"Why're we stopping?" Frypan panted.
"Because I just about broke my shuck shins on something up here. I think it's a stairway," Minho replied.
"Well let's go up it!" Frypan stated cheerfully.
"Should we? Frypan, I don't know what we'd do without you. Seriously." Minho's smartass remark made me want to laugh, but for some reason it didn't feel right, so I didn't.
We started up the stairs, and continued on them for a very long time. It felt good to finally be doing something besides walking down a never-ending hallway.
I had made my way up to the front by now. I was right behind Minho, and Thomas and Newt were right behind me. I could hear them whispering about who knows what.
