1) What do you, as the writer of your works, like about your book (placed) the most?-> So far, my book only has 5 chapters (including a prologue) so there are very few things that stand out. One of the things I like a lot so far is the sense of humour. I'd like to think that it is one of my strongest points as a writer.
2) What inspired you to write your book (placed)?
-> There are actually a lot of things that led to the idea behind this book. One of the most primary ones is battling long distance myself. Writing this book is, in a way, helping me deal with the excruciating frustration that accompanies a person while loving someone who lives far away.
3) How many books have you written, including the ones you have not completed?
-> On Wattpad, I'm writing one other book. It's called "The Wattpad chick". I'm also going to start working on another book soon and it should be out by early July.
4) What inspired/inspires you to write?
-> I think it's a combination of my love for the English language and passion for stories, whether it be hearing, reading or writing them. Also, I keep dreaming about how it would feel to hold a copy of my own published book in my hands. It makes me want to strive to be better so I get there sooner.
5) What was the first thing that drove you to start writing?
-> I don't remember all too well but I reckon it was a poem I read when I was about six years old. I was so fascinated by it that it made me start writing my own poetry (God, I hope no one ever comes across me.. it's very cringey, trust me) and then eventually, get into short stories and finally, novels.
6) Do you get writer's block frequently? If so, what do you do to combat it?
-> Oh man, writer's block is a real struggle. I get it so often that it's just ridiculous. I do different things everytime to deal with it. Sometimes, I talk about it to a fellow writer friend and ask for help to work through it. Other times, I read all my chapters again and again and attempt to brainstorm some plot points by trying to step into my characters' shoes. And at times, I don't do anything about it because I am hit with the most brilliant of ideas when I'm not dwelling on it much. Just as a sidenote, don't take the last line too seriously because at times, it can take AGES for an idea to pop up in your mind. That is the reason I'm always late with updates, aside from being shamelessly lazy.
7) Does your writing reflect your own thoughts intimately, or are you detached to some extent?
-> It depends on the situation. A lot of my writing stems from personal experiences and feelings so it becomes hard to stay detached but I try not to put too much of my emotions into it, especially if it's not beneficial to my plot line. Sometimes, I let all my thoughts flow like a river into my work and it turns out surprisingly well.
8) What was the name of your first work?
-> On Wattpad, it was a Harry Potter fanfiction. More specifically, one focusing on my original character and Draco Malfoy's love story (yeah, I was highkey obsessed with the guy back then). It was called "Secrets of Ravenclaw". I took it down a year ago though.
9) Do you have any thoughts, any comments you wish to say upon winning in the Ace Awards?
-> I am so so grateful that I got a chance to participate in the Ace Awards and very honoured that I won the second position. Participating in such awards really strengthens an aspiring writer's confidence so I'd like to thank you for hosting. It's an amazing thing you are doing.10) What dynamic advice would you give to other authors?
-> Okay so I'm not really at a position to mete out any advice. There are other writers who could give better advice than me, being more experienced and more accomplished at writing but what I would say is just do it. Just write. No matter how insecure you feel about your work, no matter what anyone tells you, NO MATTER WHAT, basically. Just write. You won't be able to progress and get better if you don't push yourself to do it. So just pick up your phone, your notepad, your diary, your computer or whatever your means are and get to it. Be brave.
11) What would you like to say to your readers as a token of appreciation for reading your book?
-> I don't know most of y'all personally but I swear, I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU! I'm so grateful to y'all because if it weren't for all you lovely readers, I wouldn't be so motivated to write. Thank you so so much for your lovely votes and comments. Also, a huge thank you to my silent readers too. I really appreciate every read I get.
12) What is your take on the genres that you have written in (e.g Romance, Sci-fi, Mystery)?
-> I have dabbled in the genres of Humour, Mystery and Romance. I think all genres are unique and exciting in their own way. Humour is my favourite genre because it helps in relaxing people for a bit after the stressful occurrences of day to day life. Mystery is something I have always had a passion for and it is also one of the most loved genres. Who doesn't love a bit of Romance? I don't read or write a lot of Romance novels but it is still one of the genres that I really like.
13) What do you like most about writing? Why do you like it?
-> I like EVERYTHING about writing but if I had to pick one, it would be being able to be in control of what goes on. It sounds like a very control freak thing to say but it is true :P Real life is very unpredictable and things can get messy at times, leaving you feeling helpless. When I'm writing, I decide what goes on in my character's lives. It's up to me whether I want to give her/him a happy ending, something that not all of us get in real life. So, in a way, it helps me feel like I'm in charge and I like that.
14) What is the inspiration behind the title of your (placed) book?
-> I think it's pretty obvious. Taylor Swift's song of the same name from her new album, Lover. I love that song a lot and it just resonates with the plot and vibe of my book.
15) Give us a small description of yourself!
-> Hey, I'm JayCee Sparkle! I'm eighteen years old and I'm from India. I am currently in my first year of college and I plan to major in Psychology. I love writing and I aspire to be a published author some day. Hopefully, one famous enough to be able to pursue writing as a full-time and only career :)
