[31] the vampire and the seelie

Jace, Simon and Rowena stood in shock, staring at the spot on the docks that Clary and Madzie were a few seconds prior. "Okay, this isn't good." Simon started, his hands flying up to his head as he rubbed his forehead, "Clary could be anywhere."

"Not anywhere. Valentine still needs a bolt of lightning." Jace retorted, looking around the docks to see if any mundanes had spotted what had just occurred.

Rowena put her hands on the two boy's shoulders, "Yeah, exactly, we'll find her."

"Great. So what's the plan? You want me to check the five-day forecast for every city in the entire world? You were right. Finding Madzie was way too easy." Simon said, sarcasm in his voice as he panicked.

"As much as I love to hear you say that, now is really not the time." Jace replied, seeming a lot calmer that Simon, whose phone started beeping.

Simon pulled his phone out of his pocket, seeming slightly relieved at the text he had received, "Okay, Luke just texted me. Maybe he can do something." He said before the group heard a man scream. "What the hell?" Simon questioned as they bolted towards the sound.

They stopped running when they saw a Seelie and a vampire both covered in black veins. The vampire was viciously feeding on a mundane man, who definitely wasn't moving.

"Don't move!" Jace yelled, causing the Seelie and the vampire to disappear. Rowena, Jace and Simon ran over to the man, Jace bending down to feel his pulse, "He's dead." Jace muttered.

"Dude, that's not normal. Even the worst of Camille's people wouldn't risk attacking a mundane on the street." Simon said, looking down at the man with sorrow in his eyes.

"Especially not with a Seelie." Rowena continued, looking up at the roof of the building next to them.

Simon's head snapped up towards Rowena and Jace, "That was a Seelie? Do you think that's what Luke was talking about? A Downworld revolt?" He questioned frantically.

"No. No, I recognize that vamp. He's in Valentine's zoo." Jace said, also looking towards where the two disappeared.

"Why would Valentine have Downworlders attack mundanes? That makes no sense." Simon questioned, confusion on his face. The same look appeared on Rowena as she tried her best to piece everything together.

"It must have something to do with the Sword." Jace said taking out his phone and calling someone. "No. Something weird's going on, Alec." He said into the phone. "I think it's Valentine. I can explain later, but right now, I need your help... It's complicated... It means we fulfilled the blood oath, but now Valentine has her. I think he's trying to activate the Soul Sword. I need everyone you have to be looking for her right now... Well, undispatch them, Alec." Jace argued down the phone, pausing every sentence or so for a response.

During this conversation, Rowena had been listening in but Simon had been inspecting the body. He jumped up from his position on the floor and walked up to Rowena and Jace, "Hey, I think I know how to find Clary."

As they followed the scent of the vampire and the Seelie, the group saw them attacking a woman and a man. Jace jumped down and cut the seelie with his seraph blade, killing him then holding his blade up to the vampire. "Remember me?" He asked.

The vampire decided to make a run for it but was brought to the ground by Simon, who got on top of him and landed a punch at his face, "Where do you come from?" Simon yelled, punching the vampire again, "Where's Valentine? Where's Valentine? Tell me! Tell me!" Simon continued to yell as he punched the vampire.

Jace walked over to Simon, watching him beat the vampire senseless and Rowena stayed a few feet behind. Even though she had been present during some of the worst killings and beatings in history, Rowena preferred not to watch, however she didn't notice the seelie wake from his position on the floor and start approaching them.

Just as Rowena heard the noise, she whipped around and punched it, just as it was shot twice by Luke.

"Are you kidding me? I thought he was dead." Simon said, looking at the seelie who had just dropped dead behind them.

"He definitely is now." Luke said, putting his gun away and approaching the group.

Rowena looked down at the body, "I can't believe I didn't hear him." She muttered to herself.

"Valentine must be experimenting again. I bet there's more where that came from." Luke informed.

Jace pointed his blade down at the vampire, "Which means you're gonna tell us where he is, or you're gonna end up just like your friend."

Rowena led the group into the abandoned warehouse that the vampire said Valentine was hiding. All four of them treaded carefully, looking around for any sign of Valentine.

"Okay, I know this is an abandoned building, but it's starting to seem extra-abandoned." Simon said, looking around at the carnival type stuff.

"Are we too late?" Jace queried, directing his question towards Luke.

Luke looked up slightly, "No. Scent's still fresh. Someone's here. We gotta move fast.

"Fan out. Cover as much ground as you can." Jace instructed.

Rowena started walking through the building, creating a small ball of glowing light and moving it out in front of her to light her way. She could hear some creaks of old machinery and toys but nothing else until she started hearing chains and voices. Rowena started to move faster as she headed towards the noise. The voices became clearer and soon she could recognise Clary's, Jace's and Valentine's voices. When they came into view, she hid, waiting for her moment to strike. Thankfully, she had come up behind Valentine and Madzie.

"Don't forget..." She heard Valentine say, "This is the mean person that got your nana in trouble in the first place. Now, if you wanna see Iris, you have to be a good little girl and do exactly what I say, okay?" He said. Rowena was about to move from her spot and send a spell at him but Simon beat her to it, grabbing Valentine and landing a punch. Rowena got up quickly and held a shield around Madzie, blocking her powers.

Unfortunately, Valentine got the upper hand and held Simon in a head-lock. He looked over at Rowena who had moved closer to Jace and Clary, still holding Madzie in a shield. "Let her go, or I kill him." He said to Rowena. She sighed and dropped her shields. "It's time to go."

Madzie created a portal behind them and Valentine started walking backwards into it. Rowena held up her hands to stop him but Valentine spoke, "Use any magic to stop us, Rowena, and Simon dies. I'll see you soon, Clarissa." Rowena put her hands down as they stepped through the portal.

"Simon! Simon, no!" Clary shouted, watching as Simon was taken.
