"Another trip to the grocery store it is..." Lenna mumbled to herself when she looked into her fridge and slammed the door shut. She quickly grabbed her bag and hoodie and walked outside after locking the door. She had tossed the crutches into the corner prefering her prothesis over them.

On the street she noticed a strange car infront of her house but didn't bother to check further. She walked past it and when she threw a quick glance at it there was no one inside.

"Have a nice day!" the cashier wished her. "You too." Lenna said before walking away with her grocery bag. She had a strange feeling that someone was watching her but when she looked around everyone seemed completely normal.

When she got back to her apartment building the strange car was still there. She walked upstairs and started to take out her keys but when she pushed the door it opened. Lenna was immediately alerted and she took out her gun from her bag. She proceeded with caution and her gun infront of her.

She saw a man sitting with his back towards the door. "Not again..." Lenna mumbled. She aimed her gun and asked with her best authoritative voice: "Who are you and what are you doing in my apartment?"

"It is good to finally meet you, Sergeant Higgins." the man said while standing up. "I never miss, so your next words might be your last." Lenna said through her teeth. The man turned slowly around.

"My name is Nick Fury, the director of SHIELD. And I am here to recruit you." he said calmly, with a hint of ignorance. "And what use should I be to you?" Lenna asked, raising her eyebrow. "Like you just said, you never miss. And I could use an agent like you." Fury said. "Well I'm sorry, but if you haven't noticed I'm disabled... And retired."

Nick raised his brow with a very unamused expression on his face. "Also I'm done with people using me."

"What is I told you that you could be a team leader again?"

Lenna made herself dinner but when it was time to eat it she had lost her appetite. She stirred it with her spoon while looking straight ahead deep in thought. She made a pros and cons list inside her head about joining SHIELD. And right now there were more pros than cons.

She was waken from her thoughts when a loud knock echoed through her apartment. She shook her head to clear her mind and then stood up. Lenna grabbed her gun before looking through the peephole. But to her surprise she saw her old friend and partner standing there.

"Wilson!" Lenna laughed when she opened the door but her partner didn't return the excitement. "Sam..." she hugged him tightly before leading him inside. "What happened, man?" Lenna asked cautiously. "I have lost two partners in two months. After you left and our team was separated I joined the Air Force like I said and- and..." Sam sighed deeply: "I lost my will to fight." Lenna put her hand around Sam and pulled him closer.

"You want my dinner?" Lenna asked from her bedroom. "Is it do late to say that I'm eating it?" Sam asked. "Well... I don't really care, honestly." Lenna said while entering the kitchen. Sam nodded and continued on. "You have a place to crash for tonight?" she asked when she sat across from him. "Yeah, my old man's house." Sam said with his mouth full.

Lenna's morning started slowly. She made herself a cup of coffee, put on a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie, finished her coffee and went outside. She started her mornings with a quick run at a nearby park.

She noticed a particularly large blonde man running past her. "Show offer." Lenna hissed and continued running but the man had heard her and turned back towards her. "I'm a what?" the man asked while putting his hands on his hips. "Show offer. That's what I said." Lenna said cockily while running past him. She heard the man scoff and the next thing she knew was that the man was past her again. Lenna rolled her eyes and continued on.

When she was almost finished with her run she saw the man again with Sam. "Hi show offer. Wilson." Lenna greeted with a smile. "Oh, hi Sarge. Nice to see you around here." Sam said and offered her a smile in return. "You two know eachother?" the man asked pointing between Lenna and Sam. "My partner in the army. Until a little accident." Sam introduced Lenna. "Sergeant Lenna Higgins." Lenna offered the man her hand. "Captain Steve Rogers." the man introduced himself. "Oh Captain Walking Flag over here." Lenna laughed. Steve was about to say something when a car came to a stop near them and a red headed woman from inside the car asked: "Hey fellas... Either one of you know where the Smithsonian is? I'm here to pick up a fossil."

"Lunch?" Lenna asked after the car had driven off. "Can't. I'm having an interview at the veterans hospital." Sam said. "Cool. Guess I'll see you around there someday maybe." Lenna said before walking away. "Guess so." Sam mumbled and walked the other direction.

Lenna sat behind a table and played cards at the veteran center. "You are killing me, lass" Roger huffed while dropping his cards on the table. "Thanks, Rog." Lenna said while shuffling cards. "Another round?" Lenna asked but Roger waved his hand dismissively sighing: "Not today. Mary is waiting at home to nag again." He started rolling himself away with his wheelchair when Lenna stood up and asked: "May I accompany you home?" "Only if you push me." Roger laughed. "Always, Colonel Davis."

When they passed the park it was suspiciously quiet. Lenna's eyes darted around. "Calm down, lass. You are making my heart rate go up." Roger laughed. "Sorry..." Lenna mumbled. "Gut feeling." she explained herself. "Yeah, this son of a bitch keeps me up at night. You know I wanted to tell you" but his words were cut short by a shot that echoed. Roger gasped in pain. "Oh my god! Roger! Hey look at me. I'm here!" Lenna shouted at him worriedly. "Go. Catch. Him." Roger got out between coughs of blood. "Roger..." Lenna cried and put her head against his chest.

After a moment of grief she turned around and looked at where the shot had came from. She saw a man walking away from the scene. "You bastard." Lenna scoffed and raised her gun. She aimed and shot but her vision was blurry and she missed, shooting him in the leg. When the man started limping away as fast as he could Lenna ran after him but her prosthesis failed her and she fell down on the ground. She bounded against the ground with her fists and put her head against the cold grass to calm herself.
