"So what's the plan?" Sam asked when they neared the house. "Barge in and get Lenna." Tony said. "Good plan."
Tony blasted the front door open but when no response came he knew that it was bad. "They have left. Recently. They can't be far!" Steve said after taking a quick look around the house. "What if he killed her? What if we were too late?" Tony asked anxiously. "What if he didn't and she needs our help?"
---
Lenna had slept in the car for a while. She had no idea of how long they had driven. "Why did we stop?" Lenna asked when she heard the car engine stop. "You need a new dress. Let's go." Lucas smiled and kissed Lenna's cheek.
He had taken Lenna to a wedding boutique. There were gorgeous dresses everywhere she looked. "Choose what you want. I'll pay." Lucas assured and smiled at how happy Lenna looked.
Lenna looked happy on the outside when really she was struggling with a battle going on inside her. There were too many red flags all around her. She started second guessing whether she actually loved Lucas or not.
---
"Where would you go if you had a pretty woman, who you called a fiance, in your car and she couldn't be seen nowhere?" Sam mumbled. "Vegas. That's where I'd go." Tony nodded. "Well that's a start."
---
"Are you sure we should do this?" Lenna asked when she and Lucas were in the waiting room. Lenna had picked out a simple yet elegant white dress and a short vail. "Baby, I love you so much. I can't wait to call you my wife." Lucas whispered with a smile. "I can't wait either." Lenna mumbled.
They had already waited an hour and she saw how Lucas was getting more frustrated with every passing second. "Calm down. We both want it to be a happy memory." Lenna whispered while putting her hand over his. "You're right. I'll try to calm down."
Lenna and Lucas were now waiting behind the door. In a matter of minutes they were going to be husband and wife. When the music started playing a headache struck Lenna again. She got confused but carried on because of Walters, who was pulling her forward.
After staring into Walters' eyes for what seemed like eternity the horrifying question came.
"Will you, Lenna Higgins, take Lucas Walters as your lawfully wedded husband?"
Lenna stared into Walters' dark eyes. He looked so happy but even now his eyes looked dull and hollow. "I, Lenna Higgins, take Lu-" Lenna started but a huge blast stopped her. "I object!" Tony yelled while walking through the broken doorway. Walters pulled out a gun and aimed at Tony first but after a moment turned it towards Lenna.
"You can't save her." he snickered darkly. "No, but I can." Lenna yelled and threw a strong punch at Walters. "You bitch!" he shouted and reached for his gun but Steve was faster and secured him. "Tony..." Lenna smiled weakly before collapsing on the floor.
---
"Tony, they'll notify you if anything happens."
Lenna had been in the hospital for nearly a week. Tony had been beside her for all that time almost never leaving the room. The rest of the team came through also but Tony was the only constant. He held her hand even when he was sleeping.
"Have a little faith, Cap."
The room was dark and Tony was asleep when Lenna woke. Her eyes fluttered open and she felt a bit nauseous but relieved that she wasn't in that hideous pink dress anymore. "Tony?" she whispered remembering his face as the last thing she saw. When her eyes adjusted she found the sleeping man in the chair next to her.
"Tony?" she whispered again and gave his hand a gentle squeeze. "I'm awake!" Tony jolted up. "I saw that." Lenna chuckled quietly. "How are you feeling? Do you need a doctor? Can I get you anything? Are you in pain? Do you want-"
"I'm fine. You can call in a nurse." Lenna smiled at the sight of Tony rushing out the door.
"So how much damage did he do?" Lenna asked after the nurse had left. "We don't know. The memory loss thing is crazy." Tony mumbled and glanced down. "But do you know anything?" Lenna asked while turning Tony's head so he would look at her. "We know that your emotions are damaged. We don't know how much but we know they are." Tony explained quickly before looking away again. "Oh, so basically nothing?" Lenna chuckled. "Um... What do you mean?" Tony asked while turning back towards Lenna. "Honey, I have never been emotionally stable. Some would say I have PTSD but I don't like to slap labels on things."
"You have PTSD?" Tony asked with wide eyes. "I was almost six years in different war zones. Of course I have." Lenna smiled and cupped Tony's cheek. "Why didn't you say anything before?" Tony asked while raising his hand to Lenna's. "Because it's nothing I can't handle."
---
"Can I get you anything?" Tony asked while squeezing Lenna's hand. "You can get me home." Lenna chuckled. "You know that I can't do that, sweetheart." Tony smiled and leaned in to kiss Lenna's forehead. "Why not? You are the Tony Stark!" Lenna exclaimed with a chuckle. "And you are sick. If I want I can make your stay here longer." Tony smirked. "No, no... Don't!"
Tony started laughing. "You must really hate hospitals." he smiled and kissed Lenna's forehead. "You can say that. Even when I got shot I played it off as nothing serious happened. Said to the nurses that it was just a scratch and then laughed when they started panicking at the sight of my wounds." Lenna chuckled. "You did that?" Tony asked with wide eyes. "Yeah. All the time. I was so lucky to get shot at least once in four months. I watched bigger and badder man than me go into the hospital with small scratches and things that I wouldn't even report." Lenna smiled. "Don't ever do that to me."
"You know that even when I couldn't remember you, you were a real headache. You and Wilson both." Lenna chuckled. "What to you mean?" Tony asked with a smirk. "You started appearing in my dreams. Shoving a rifle in my hands and calling me Sergeant or sweetheart."
"I promise I'll forever be a headache, your headache."
"It's good to hear that."
---
"You know, Tony you can go home. I'll be fine." Lenna smiled.
"Not gonna leave you, sweetie." Tony smirked, giving Lenna's forehead a small kiss. Lenna felt a small blush forming on her cheeks, which she hid with tilting her head down.
She had never felt like this towards a person before. Her stomach was filled with butterflies and her face felt like it was burning.
Lucky for her, Steve stepped in.
