Lenna sat in the jet with Tony. She was nervous to start a conversation, thinking that it could go bad and she would have to sit with him in that closed space. "We'll land in fifteen minutes."
---
"The quinjet is here so they must be too." Tony mumbled now in his Iron Man suit. Lenna nodded and followed Tony close behind.
"Grab around me." Tony ordered while pulling Lenna close to him. Lenna wrapped her good arm tightly around Tony and prepared for the flight into seemingly bottomless pit.
"Um it's stuck." Lenna mumbled after glancing at the opening system that seemed to be fried out. "Let me." Tony nodded her away and stepped to the door. He pushed his fingers between the double doors and pushed them apart. He stepped forward with Lenna close behind.
"You seem a little defensive." Tony said while lowering his helmet. Lenna let her pistol down to her side. "It's been a long day." Steve scoffed. "At ease, Soldier. I'm currently not after you." Tony called out for Bucky. But he held his aim and Steve still covered them with his shield.
"Then why are you here?" Steve asked cautiously and gave a quick glance towards Lenna, who had her eyes fixed on Bucky. Her breathing was quickening but she didn't let it show out in her expression. She was terrified by that man atop the stairs with a gun. She hadn't been afraid of Bucky when he was still Winter Soldier, but now. Something in him made her feel a lot of feelings at once. She shook out of her mind when Buck lowered his gun.
"It's good to see you, Tony. And Lenna."
---
Lenna followed behind the three man further down the old corridor. She was confused by all the events that had happened in 24 hours and she didn't notice when she pumped into Bucky.
"Um, sorry." she mumbled quickly when he looked behind him at the woman almost trembling in fear. "It's alright." Bucky nodded. That small nod made Lenna trust him more. It was such a small gesture but it made her not fear him.
Lenna jumped at the sudden sound that echoed through the entire room. "If it's any comfort, they died in their sleep. Did you really think I wanted more of you?" the awfully familiar voice asked. "Baron?" Lenna whispered but it seemed to carry when the man answered: "Yes, who asks?" Lenna looked between the three man. Steve nodded slightly. "Baron, it's me. Leonid." Lenna said while approaching where Steve stood with Zemo on the other side of the door. "It's impossible, Leonid is dead. Vitali's bitch killed him." Zemo shouted. "Well she really wasn't a good shooter since I only got a small shot through my leg. Baron, it's me, I said in Sokovia that we'd make a good team." Lenna tried to prove that she wasn't faking. "Have fun, Leonid."
"Wait, you are Sokovian. Is that what this is about?" Steve asked. "Sokovia was a failed state long before you blew it to hell. No, I'm here because I made a promise." Zemo explained. Steve studied Zemo and finally asked: "You lost someone?" Zemo took a second to answer but when he did his words were filled with venom. "I lost everyone. And so will you."
A surveillance video started playing with the time stamp of December 16th 1991. Lenna and Steve both stepped towards the screen. "An empire toppled by its enemies can rise again. But one which crumbles from within? That's dead... Forever." Zemo spoke.
Tony watched Zemo before turning his gaze at the screen. "I know that road. What is this?" he asked but no answer came.
Lenna turned her attention from Tony to the screen when a car drove into a light post. A motorbike followed it and a tall man hopped of from it. He moved towards an older man that had gotten out of the car. "Help my wife. Please. Help..." the man pleaded but the man, who had gotten off the bike walked up to him and lifted him by his gray hair. "Sergeant Barnes?" the older man asked. Lenna watched with shock what happened next and she turned towards Bucky, who didn't need to watch what was going on on the screen to know exactly what happens.
Lenna put her hand over Tony's and closed her eyes so she wouldn't see what happened on the screen. When a shot rang Lenna felt Tony take a deep breath. Tony lunged past Lenna towards Bucky but Steve stopped him. "Tony. Tony." he tried to calm the anxious man down. Lenna didn't turn towards the men but rather stared at the place where Tony had just been.
Lenna tried to gather herself to stop the fight before it started but she was a moment too late. She lost her balance when Tony took a step back but he caught her and pressed her against his back. "Tony, stop." Lenna whispered but her voice was weak and barely audible.
Tony punched Steve and blocked Bucky's gunfire before disarming the man. He grabbed Bucky and flew across the room. Lenna helped Steve up after what he threw his shield at Tony which made him shoot past Bucky's head. Lenna shot at Tony to break some parts of his suit but her aim wasn't as good because she had to use her non-dominant hand. "Lenna, stay out of this!" Tony yelled at her while fighting with Bucky. "Don't push me around!" Lenna yelled her voice threatening to break at any second. Tony aimed and shot Lenna's gun out of her grip. "Steve do something!" Lenna yelled when she saw Bucky struggling. "I'm kinda stuck." Steve shouted back while trying to break the shackles that held his ankles. Tony aimed a rocket towards Bucky but he pushed Tony's hand away just at the right time for it to fly in the other direction. The explosion caused a huge structure to start falling. Steve ran past it effortlessly but Lenna was just a bit too slow and she was buried under the rubble.
"Alright Lenna stay calm. You got this." she mumbled while trying to find a way out. "Lenna?! Lenna?! Are you alright?" Steve yelled from outside the rubble. "I'm fine. Stop him from killing Bucky!" Lenna yelled back although she knew she wasn't fine. She felt a pain in her arm that had been broken in the previous fight and the cast had probably shattered by the impact. When she moved her arm it hurt like hell. "Breath through it." Lenna mumbled while lifting a huge pipe off her hand. She tried to contain the cry of pain inside herself. After she had freed herself enough to move she looked for any kind of light that would lead her out of the pile of rubble.
"That was harder than I want to admit." Lenna mumbled and started running towards where she heard the fight.
Lenna found Steve's shield first. She then saw Bucky across a hole. They locked eyes and both of them immediately knew what they had to do. Lenna nodded and Bucky answered with the same. Lenna threw Cap's shield to Bucky and followed down after him. Lenna saw how the two super soldiers threw punches at Tony and traded the shield between them. Her foot started bouncing up and down because of her anxiety that something would happen to one of them. When Tony zapped Steve and it threw him into the wall Lenna ran to him.
"Steve? Are you hurt?" Lenna asked worriedly. "No I'm fine." Steve mumbled while trying to stand up. Lenna turned her attention back at Tony after she heard a huge blast. She saw Bucky with his metal arm almost completely blown off. When she saw Tony aiming at Bucky again she jumped forward. "No!" she yelled when she pushed Bucky away and took the hit for him.
"Steve, I don't have a pulse." Bucky yelled while frantically checking Lenna's injuries. "Take her away, Buck!" Steve yelled back. Bucky threw Lenna's limp body over his shoulder and started running away towards the quinjet. He mumbled encouragements all the way down there for Lenna but mostly to himself.
When Bucky reached the jet he threw Lenna on a gurney and checked for pulse again. Where there still wasn't none he started CPR. After a few sets Lenna finally took a deep breath but instantly started coughing. "What happened? Where are Steve and Tony?" Lenna asked while her eyes darted around in the jet. "You took a hit for me. Steve will come in a second and we will go away. Unless you want to stay with, Stark." Bucky explained and looked out the jet door for Steve. "No, I'll come with you. That way he doesn't have to arrest me." Lenna mumbled while still trying to catch her breath. Bucky nodded.
"Bucky, do you smoke?" Lenna asked while looking out the quinjet door for Steve. "No. Steve would kick my ass when I did." Bucky chuckled. "Why doesn't anyone smoke? I don't get it." Lenna mumbled while looking at the destroyed cigarette pack. "Maybe because Steve?" Bucky suggested. "Mhh... Maybe."
