Lenna woke up to a gentle shake against her shoulder. "We have to move." Logan mumbled. "Why didn't you wake me earlier?!" Lenna asked while frantically starting to clothe herself. "You were sleeping so peacefully. And we really aren't on a schedule here or anything." Logan mumbled while securing his boots.
"Can you hand me my gun?" Lenna asked with a stretched out hand. "In a minute." Logan answered and turned around. "There." he handed Lenna a gun. "Thanks. How much ammo? Also where should I shoot?" Lenna asked. "10 bullets for now and shoot at head or chest. We want the most painless end for them."
Logan seemed like an expert. He did everything with caution and care. He looked around and seemed like he had all the time in the world. He was also very quiet. Lenna followed his actions as closely as possible so she wouldn't ruin something.
---
Logan had tracked a trail for a long time. He listened very closely guessing that they weren't far behind the animal. And when he finally found the deer he had been looking for he didn't want anything to screw it up. With a quiet but quick raise of his gun he aimed and the next second the deer was on the ground.
"Come on. We have to drag it back now." he mumbled and walked closer to the deer. Lenna nodded and followed him. "That's an excellent shot." Lenna assured him while she grabbed the back legs of the animal. "Well thanks. I did it myself." Logan joked and grabbed the front legs.
"So no more hunting today?" Lenna asked while pulling the heavy animal behind her. "Nope. The shot scared most of the animals far away and we can eat that deer for a long time." Logan smiled. "It was an awesome experience even like that." Lenna nodded.
---
"So what will you do next?" Lenna asked. "I'll skin it and then cut it up and put into plastic containers." Logan mumbled quickly while working with the animal. "You sure you won't be cold out here in your sweater? I can bring you your coat." Lenna asked quietly. "I'm fine. Thanks." Logan nodded without turning his eyes away from the deer.
Lenna sat inside. She had found only two books both of them in French so she was bored. Lenna sighed deeply and reached for her coat. "Hey. Me again." Lenna smiled. Logan nodded and continued his work. "So how long have you hunted for your family?" Lenna asked to fill the awkward silence. "About 6-7 years. First started with going hunting with dad and now I do it alone. Or well sometimes I bring someone with me." Logan mumbled quickly. "That's long. How often do you come here?"
"Depends. With that deer I have about a month or so. But if I don't catch anything then I stay until I do."
Lenna wanted to ask more but Logan cut her off. "Enough of me. What do you do if you aren't on a run?" Logan smiled slightly. "I am an assistant to a CEO. But we had a fall out and now I'm jobless." Lenna said after a long sigh to think of a lie that wouldn't be too far from reality. "Cool. I don't think I could handle anyone else's problems." Logan chuckled quietly. "It's easy if you don't cause yourself problems." Lenna smiled.
"So you just cut it into small pieces and put them in these boxes?" Lenna asked while she watched Logan work in the small kitchen corner. "Pretty much yeah. If you want you can write me some labels. Unless you can't stand blood." Logan offered and pushed a roll of tape and a marker towards Lenna. "I can do that. Just tell me what to write."
---
"And Emily cooks food from all of that?" Lenna asked while writing a label for liver. "Umm... No. We don't eat brain and other things like that. Some do but not us." Logan smiled while flipping the knife in his hand.
"Can she cook well?"
"She is one of the best." Logan assured with a wink. Lenna blushed a bit but her mind instantly punished her for that and reminded her of Tony. "So we will head out tomorrow?" Lenna asked quietly. "Yeah. Unless you want to go tonight." Logan mumbled and glanced over at Lenna. He saw the tears building in her eyes.
"Is something wrong?" Logan wiped his hands clean into a towel and walked over to Lenna. "You can tell me." he whispered and put his hand on Lenna's arm while kneeling infront of her. "No it's nothing. I'm fine." Lenna mumbled while wiping away the tears.
"Jennifer, I live with two women. I know when something is wrong." Logan smiled worriedly. "It's just that you are so amazing and I think about the man that I left behind and how much I love him but I don't think he loves me. And that shit hurts so much." Lenna mumbled. "Come here. I think you deserve a hug." Logan whispered and opened his arms while standing up. Lenna hesitated for a moment but then thought that she had nothing to lose and hugged Logan tightly.
"Enough of tears. Let's drink in honour off the dead deer." Logan smiled and brought out two glasses and a bottle of scotch.
---
"FRIDAY do we still have no idea where she is?" Tony sighed deeply while rubbing the fatigue out of his eyes. "I'm afraid no, Mr. Stark." the A.I. answered almost with an apologetic tone. "The Sokovian lady. She doesn't know anything at all?" Tony asked desperately. "Miss Kovalenko hasn't seen Mr. Hayward since when you and he were last there."
"Sir, they are bringing in Captain Rogers, Mr. Wilson and Mr. Barnes."
Tony hurried down the corridor to find the trio. His phone started ringing. It was Secretary Ross.
He just ended the call when Steve, Sam, T'Challa and Natasha stepped inside. "Consequences?" Steve asked confused. "Secretary Ross wants you both prosecuted. Had to give him something." Tony explained while walking to Natasha.
"I'm not getting that shield back, am I?" Steve asked. "Technically it's the government's property. Wings too." Natasha said over her shoulder while walking with Tony. "That's cold." Sam hissed. "Warmer than jail." Tony pointed out.
---
"Hey you wanna see something cool? I pulled something from dad's office. Felt timely." Tony smiled and placed a box with two pens infront of Steve. "FDR signed the Lend-Lease bill with these in 1941. Provided support for the allies when they needed it the most." Tony explained his action. "Some would say it brought our country closer to war." Steve scoffed. "See? If not for these you wouldn't be here. I'm trying to... What do they call it? That's an olive branch. Is that what you call it?" Tony said a bit confused with himself.
"Have you found Lenna? I didn't see her here." Steve asked. "I'm kinda... We are kinda." Tony stuttered. "You haven't. What about Pepper?" Steve made the assumption himself and asked a painful question for Tony. "That was low, but I'm okay with that. In both of their defense, I'm a handful. Yet, dad was a pain in the ass, but he and mom always made it work."
---
"Lenna?" Logan kneeled infront of the bed. The only answer he got was a low hum for him to continue. "I made coffee and sandwiches. We'll leave soon."
Lenna took her time to get up. She stretched and with every crack that sounded she felt older. "I'll go get the snowmobile ready. You eat something." Logan ordered before stepping outside. Lenna nodded even though Logan couldn't see that. She walked into the kitchen and found a set of keys next to her coffee mug.
"I think you'll need these to start that thing." Lenna chuckled before throwing Logan the keys. "Thanks. I was just looking for them." Logan smiled while stuffing her mittens along with other things back in his pocket
"I got the meat in the trunk, the hut is clean and door locked. Did I forgot something?" Logan mumbled but turned towards Lenna with the question. "I don't think so. You took your gloves?" Lenna asked after a moment of thought. "Yeah. Right in my pocket." Logan nodded while patting the coat pocket. "Hop on then."
Logan felt how Lenna was staring to fall asleep behind him. He took a hold of Lenna's hands with one of his own and continued steering with the other hand.
---
"Sorry to wake you but we are home." Logan whispered and let go of Lenna's hands. "Did I fall asleep?" Lenna asked confused. "Yeah." Logan nodded and started unpacking the bags. Lenna joined to help him.
"We are back!" Logan yelled before shutting the door with his foot. "Wonderful. What did you get?" Emily asked while hurrying to the hall and helping them with the containers. "A deer." Logan mumbled and walked into the kitchen with Lenna following close behind.
