"Caw! Caw! S-class squad! S-class squad! Head t-ACK!" The bird flew through the house early in the morning. None of us were awake. We were all gathered in the living room once more. Sleeping. My mother was up already in the kitchen making breakfast for us. She saw the bird in the house and did what any normal person would do if there was a bird in the house. Take a broom to it.
My eyes popped open wide at the commotion. I jumped up into action and the others woke up surprised at my braced figure.
"What's wro-" Tanjior started. But he heard another bang and multiple caws. Both of us ran into the kitchen to find my mother with a broom trying to kill the thing.
"Mom!" I yelled. I tried not to laugh at the serious situation.
"Oh hi (Y/n)! Sorry to wake you up like this but a bird came in through the window!" She cried. She tried to take another swing at the poor bird before Tanjiro managed to take the broom out of her hands. He smiled understandingly at my mother before laughing a bit.
I laughed along with him while my mother looked at the two of us confused. "That's the messenger bird mom!" I laughed holding my stomach. Tanjiro calmed down the bird and it landed on his head. I had to admit, this view was adorable. I looked at him admiringly, but he didn't seem to notice. "Caw! Head to the red light district! Caw! The red light district!"
The crow spoke loudly with confidence, but the moment his speech was done I could visually see the anger in his expression directed in his gate at my mother.
"Why the red light district?" I questioned. A blush slowly making its way onto my cheeks at the thought of what exactly happened there.
A place of sultry acts. A place full of sins and adultry. A place to satisfy the needs of men and women alike. Not a place meant for anyone who had kids.
"Shinobu Kocho has heard rumors spread around about the ones you spoke of there."
"You mean the ones that possess?" Tanjiro asked for me as I left the room in a rush to grab my sword. I stumbled into the rooms tripping over the three bodies on the floor.
"(Y/n)! Fight me!" My body stopped completely with all movements.
Did I hear correctly? All of the heads in the room snapped in Inosuke's direction as he stepped back nervously.
"Did you..."
"Just say her name correctly?" Zenitsu finished my sentence. He was still wrapped in blankets, not too eager to get ready for our next mission.
"So what?" He said. I smiled slightly, proud of the boy.
I gripped the hilt of my sword but not without hesitation. "We have a new mission. Go ask Tanjiro for the details." I said before going to my own room to put my uniform on.
🌸
My mother bid us a farewell with a few tears. She had a talk with the boys while I already walking down the road. I was a bit curious as to what they were talking about. But I needed to get my head into the mission.
I closed my eyes in deep thought. The red light district was already filled with enough thirsty demons. We didn't need another unknown being to get in the way of the business there. What was the plan? The district is only a day's travel. If I remembered correctly, one of the pillars had business there. But it's nothing we needed to trifle in.
I hadn't noticed when the boys joined us on the trip. I also didn't notice that Tanjios hand filled the emptiness of my own I was too busy trying to understand how to play out the mission.
Zenitsu's eyes wandered over to the two of us. He had tried to have a conversation with Tanjiro about me while I was talking to Inosuke about his childhood. But Tanjiro just brushed it away with a small blush on his face saying simply '(Y/n) is a wonderful person!'.
My eyes finally opened and I looked at the ground. "Try to find the main location...no....yes?" I mumbled and groaned at my thoughts. I felt a tight squeeze on my hand and it drew my attention. "T-Tanjiro?" I questioned. When- when did he...?
"What are you thinking about?" He beamed. Sending another reassuring squeeze to my hand as if saying 'yeah, you're going to get used to this.'
"Ah..uhm.. things?" I sputter out. It was hard to form words. My free hand flied up to my face in embarrassment. Tanjiro laughed at my expression.
"Things? Well, I would hope so. Having your mind empty is no good." Tanjiro nodded with his words. He opened one eye to peek at me and smiled when he saw my still flustered state. It was like a game to him. To see how flustered I could be.
I didn't bother to pull my hand away. I didn't want to.
"What do you think we should do?" I asked him. I managed to cool down my heart and I noticed Zenitsu looking at us. I looked away quickly.
"For the mission? I would just sniff them out." Tanjiro said. He noticed almost every small movement I made out of embarrassment. He smiled to himself but he didn't know it.
"They don't have a sent. They possess other beings who have sent's." Zenitsu pointed out. Nezuko shuffled inside of her box and grumbled a bit.
"Do they have a specific sound?" I asked him. "I know you can hear very well." I started to play with the hem of my uniform in shyness. I was definitely not used to the contact.
"Hmmm other than slight fizzing when they are out of the body, no." Zenitsu managed to stumble out. I smiled weekly at them in understanding.
No leads? That's okay for now.
