I burst out laughing while still trying to stay quiet. "Really?" I asked.
"Yes really." He laughed along with me.
"That's ridiculous!"
"I know."
The rest of the night we talked about small things. The random things we can remember from our past. Like training. Or first achievements. Either way, no matter what we talked about, I still had fun.
My eyes grew heavy and my head rolled to the side. Tanjiro took notice of my head on his shoulder. But I hadn't known.
"You should get some sleep. You don't have to move if you don't want to." He suggested.
It was obvious he also didn't want to move. He was in bliss. Tanjiro's hand found its way to mine. But I was too tired to get flustered, or even talk for that matter. I simply just nodded my head before falling into the void of sleep.
Tanjiro was a different story. His face was flushed at the pretty girl who was sleeping on him. Sure, Nezuko slept on him all the time. He would think he would be used to it. Tanjiro knew what he felt for the girl from the beginning. That incident back in the desert drove him insane with flusteredness. He tried his best not to show it. Though, he hadn't liked her back then. If that were to happen now, or any time soon, he surely would've dropped the girl in his arms.
This girl resting so lightly on his shoulder drove him crazy. Her smell, her touch, and his feelings.
🌸
The fuzziness of warmth enveloped me as I slept. Tanjiro had yet again lent his haori to me. The boys were already up and awake but agreed to let me sleep in. Inosuke had trouble keeping quiet. Since all he did was yell. Zenitsu dragged the boar downstairs before he could cause a ruckus. Tanjiro, however, took a look at all of the missing people's papers. There were multiple stacks of differently timed reports. He pouted at the sight before leaving to get some breakfast himself.
"Tanjiro, why has (Y/n) been so tired lately?" Zenitsu asked his dear friend while waiting in line for some food. "Is it because she has to deal with Inosukes stupidity?" He chuckled to himself while the boar scoffed.
"I'm not stupid! Your stupid." He exclaimed. He was a child in a man's body.
Tanjiro shook his head and laughed. "No no, it's probably because we've been staying up these past nights talking."
"About what?" Zenitsu's eyes shined mischievously.
"Uhm. Anything?" He questioned himself. There was no exact answer to this question really. The three boys had gotten their food and proceeded to sit down in a secluded area.
Tanjiro took a long sip from his water while Zenitsu spoke. "Oh, so things like your infatuation with her?" He commented. Sure Zenitsu was a fraud. But he knew how to get answers when he wanted them.
Tanjiro choked on the water he was drinking and coughed. "Wha...what?" He managed to speak out. Inosuke laughed at his friend's struggle and proceeded to pick up the pancakes with his hands.
Zenitsu dropped the fork in his hand and looked at Tanjiro right in the eye. "Don't play dumb. I know you like her."
Tanjiro sighed in a sort of relief. "Oh, of course, I like (Y/n)! She's a wonderful person." The boy cluelessly beamed. Zenitsu smacked the top of his head in disappointment.
"That's not what I mean and you know it." He said, pointing the fork at the boy. "Not just 'like as a friend.' I mean you're practically all over (Y/n). Claiming her as yours! You should share at least." The boy complained.
Tanjiro tilted his head in confusion before it clicked in his head. "Wait. Claiming her? Do I really look like I'm doing that?" He asked somewhat worriedly. He didn't want to seem possessive.
Zenitsu and even Inosuke nodded their heads vigorously. "You didn't let go of her hand for five hours yesterday. And you barked at the guys checking her out when we got to the district. I'm surprised (Y/n) didn't know about that." Zenitsu finally took a much-needed bite from his food. But sadly, it was cold with how much they were talking. The boy cried in defeat.
"Know about what?" I asked, approaching the three boys at the table. I was baffled that only Nezuko and I were in the room when I woke up. So I went to find them.
"That Tanjiro's haori matched with the rest of his family!" Zenitsu scrambled. He wanted to keep the conversation between them private. Inosuke looked at the yellowed hair boy in disgust. But then continued to eat the orange peel. Tanjiro nodded in agreement. At that moment it was like the two boys had a telepathic bond.
'If we tell her, I will die.' Their minds shared. On Tanjiro's part, he would die of embarrassment. For Zenitsu, he was scared that the burgundy boy would kill him.
I swatted at Inosuke's hands to drop the orange peel and handed him another orange from the counter. "Don't eat the peel. It's gross." I told him. He eyed the orange before actually getting it. I laughed at him messily peeling the orange.
Zenitsu's eyes lit up in acknowledgment and he pointed to me and whispered to his friend. "You even let her wear your haori! What's more claiming than that?" He asked motioning to me aggressively.
I grabbed a small bowl of oatmeal before sitting down to talk with the boys about what we were going to do today. "Since there are so many different families we have to talk to, we need to split up in pairs."
Zenitsu excitedly raised his hand and stood up in a flash. "I call (Y/n)!" He yelled. Red rose to my cheeks at how eager he was to call on me. The people around us looked at him like he was crazy. I didn't blame them. Tanjiro looked at his yellow friend in disbelief and Inosuke growled with anger. "What?" He asked about the looks we all gave him. "You guys talk to her all the time. It's my turn now."
I couldn't help but let out a laugh. It seemed like he wanted to say something. "I'm okay with it. What about you two? Can you live with being alone with each other for the day?" I looked towards the boy with brilliant eyes.
