While sleeping, I could feel a shift in the weight on the bed. Nezuko was in the process of climbing off to get back in her box. She was awake, but I was sure that it wouldn't be for long.
I didn't hear the knock at the door, for I had fallen back asleep.
Nezuko hummed quietly to her brother when she opened the door. It couldn't have been later than 4 in the morning when he knocked.
His smile was tired and the bags under his eyes gave it away to her. He hadn't slept a wink.
"Ah Nezuko...good morning..." He yawned out quietly. Originally, he had come to wake me up for some early morning training with the two other boys. But when he leaned forward to see that I was still sleeping, his eyes softened and his objective had changed.
A few minutes of sleep couldn't hurt right?
Tanjiro slowly moved forward. Each step towards the bed and I, had changed his mind constantly. Nezuko sat and watched her brother in this state of denial. She hummed and placed her hands on his shoulder, guiding him to the bed far faster than he was walking.
I was sleeping on the far side. Luckily the bed was large enough for two people, so when Nezuko sat him down on the bed I barely felt it.
His muscles relaxed into the soft cushion. Finally giving way before laying down next to me. Surly he was going to get an earful when he woke back up but that would be later.
Before deciding to mentally prepare himself for sleep he kissed my cheek softly and put his forehead against mine.
That was no normal human body temperature.
His body bolted back up and his eyebrows furrowed in concern. Why was I sick? Why was my forehead burning hot?
His thoughts of sleep were gone in a matter of moments as he went to grab a towel and a bowl of cool water. Completely disregarding and forgetting he was ever tired. He was trying to think back on moments where I could have fallen ill. Back at the butterfly estate?
He thought to ask Shinobu, but he had seen her in the hallway of the hotel, talking to herself about the dried up ocean, and her engagement. She was busy.
I only fell with a fever. Tanjiro had checked with the front desk for a thermometer. And the fever was 100.3
He sighed with relief while wringing out water from the towel. He kissed my forehead before placing the towel there and he laid back down next to me.
He didn't care about getting sick. In fact, he worked better under a fever. But he wasn't thinking about himself.
My eyes opened slightly as all of the commotion. At first I didn't register the weak smiling face next to me. "How are you feeling?" Tanjiro asked.
One second passed. And then five. Suddenly I jumped in surprise. "W-when did you get here?!" I stuttered out. As flustered as could be.
The boy laughed and shifted in bed to a more comfortable position. "At first I came to wake you up but I noticed you had a temperature."
I sat up and a towel fell from my forehead.
I reached up to feel it and noticed it was rather warm. "Wow really? I feel fine though..." my hands found their way to my lap and I shook my head. "What were you going to wake me up for?" I slowly laid back down next to Tanjiro. Being upset and tired about the coldness of the room. Sinking back into the warmth of the sheets.Tanjiro looked up to the ceiling in contemplation before his smile widened and his arm reached over my waist pulling me closer. "It was nothing."
I let out a small squeak at the sudden pull. My face felt hot but I couldn't tell if it was from
The fever or the person next to me."Can I stay here? Do you mind? I didn't get much sleep last night." He asked shyly. As if he knew I would say yes. His grip on my waist tightened as he rested his head in the crook of my neck.
At this point I had given up on all levels of flusteredness. This was my significant other. There was no point in such things. I giggled and hummed a yes. Soon to fall asleep yet again in Tanjiro's arms.
Of course later, we were woken up by an angry Zenitsu and an even angrier Hashira...
