Magnus was sitting beside Alec at Robert's office talking while Alec sat staring at the ring on his finger chewing his lip nervously. Since they had been at the restaurant all Alec could think about is how fast this is and he didn't want anything to go wrong. He shifted in his seat and glanced over at Magnus just looking at the little details. He noticed how when Magnus was serious he sat with his shoulders up more and always leaned forward. He also noticed how Magnus had the tiniest bit of sparkle to his skin and how his hair even with all the product it appeared soft as feathers. Magnus sat back and winked at Alec which brought Alec out of his thoughts and back into the present moment. "Is this really what you want to do Alec? You want to get into business with someone you barely know?" Magnus rolled his eyes at Robert and Alec looked between the two before speaking. "Who wouldn't want to get into business with him? I remember when the restaurant opened we couldn't stop talking about it at home which you would know had you came over for the holidays. He hasn't slowed down business-wise since they opened. I have worked an event there with my recipes. Magnus has invited me back we just haven't seen the need for it yet. So I think it is safe to say that we are already in business together and now we are stepping forward making it official and declaring it." Robert sighed and made a gesture towards Alec's hand "and the ring?" Alec looked at it before lowering his hands off the desk murmuring. "Our business and not your concern." Robert shook his head "people will find out you know? Magnus is fairly well known they are going to find out how long you have been together and they are going to find out if this whole business arrangement is real or not. I suggest you think long and hard Alec before diving into anything headfirst. This is your future. It is Max's fu..." Alec practically snapped at his father cutting him off. "You leave my son out of this. Forget it. We are done here." Alec got up pushing his way out of his dad's office walking to Magnus's car. While Alec leaned against it arms crossed Magnus was still in the office a smirk on his face. He spoke to Robert in a very smug voice. "You know Mr. Lightwood Alec isn't the man you seem to make him out to be. Sure he didn't go into business in the way you had hoped and yes he is a bit different than his siblings but he did the one thing you never could. He raised a family even when the home was broken. He ran a business with his mother and still came home and raised a little boy who isn't even his own flesh and blood. You might not like me and that's fine but you will respect him and what he is doing for the family you left." He stood and headed towards the door before stopping and turning. "One more thing. When Alec is everything I know he will be don't try to make amends. Don't crawl back and ask him to forgive you. He is going to be so successful he will make you look small." He walked out of the office heading to find Alec.

Alec was leaning against the hood of Magnus's car arms crossed over his chest. Magnus put his hand on Alec's bicep and murmured "what do you want to do?" Alec glanced over and shrugged "does it matter? I think even doing what he wants me to won't help and I am not basing this relationship and what we do in it off his agenda. Just take me home I need to figure things out." He moved away from Magnus to get in the car but Magnus grabbed him by the hips pulling him to his chest kissing his cheek. "It wouldn't be perfect or even ideal some days but you and Max are welcome to come stay with me. I have an extra room that Max can use and if you don't want to share we can easily convert my office into another room." Alec closed his eyes and shifted to take the ring off trying to push it into Magnus's hand. "Here you'll want this back. I guess we could stay with you for a little while. Only if you don't mind." Magnus shook his head taking the ring and slipping it back onto Alec's finger "Keep it, Alexander. One day I will ask you to marry me for real and this ring until that day can serve as my promise to you." He held Alec close just letting the silence fall over them. Alec buried his face and took a deep breath before pulling away and gesturing to the car. "Let's go home." Alec said this as almost a whisper before turning and getting into the car looking out the window as Magnus drove in silence.

Upon arriving back at Alec's place he moved upstairs opening his closet to grab a suit case putting it on his bed looking around briefly before starting to put his clothes in it. Magnus leaned against the door way watching for a moment before moving to help Alec pack. Alec glanced over murmuring "in the back of the hallway closet there is another suitcase. Could you go pack Max's things. Make sure to get his monkey blanket and his animals. He gets worried without them." Magnus nodded gently squeezing Alec's hand before moving to do exactly what Alec asked him to do. It didn't take long for Alec to pack his things because he didn't own much but there were several things of Max's that he was debating on just giving to his mother for when Max stays with her or just selling. After making sure that they had most things they loaded Magnus's car and Alec's before deciding they would just have Maryse meet them at Magnus's loft. Magnus kissed Alec's hand gently and murmured softly. "I have you Alexander. You and Max. Just hold onto me and no matter what happens. No  matter what anyone says you'll still be everything to me." Alec looked over smiling slightly as a thanks and they just sat there for a moment longer hand in hand waiting to go onto the next chapter. Alec was worried and stressed but Magnus was open to the adventure they'll take together. One thing is for certain no matter what happens Magnus will never let Alec feel what he felt today when speaking with his father again. He will make sure Alec knows juts how special he really is.
