Alec stretched letting out a yawn and smiled seeing his son playing at the foot of the bed with Izzy and she glanced up gesturing her head towards the door. This caused Alec to raise an eyebrow so he got up kissing his son on the top of his head heading to the hallway pausing because his son let out the cutest giggle when Izzy tickled him. His attention was captured again when he heard music coming from downstairs. He knew it wasn't his mother because she's with Luke for the week and Izzy is in the room. He frowned slightly heading downstairs his grey shirt wrinkled from laying in bed and his hair a mess. He turned the corner to the kitchen stopping as soon as he saw Magnus standing there packing what looks to be a picnic basket. "Uh hi.." Alec said softly and Magnus looked up smiling "well look at you all refreshed. Are you ready for dinner?" He gestured to the basket. Alec tried to smooth out his clothes and nodded "Uh yeah sure. Thank you." He wasn't sure how to react to Magnus showing up for dinner but knowing his family Izzy probably let him in. "Should I go change?" Magnus looked up as he closed the basket. "No you look wonderful Alexander just let your sister and son know you're leaving. They are excited because I brought them over pizza." Alec smiled softly before turning to go say goodbye to Izzy and Max giving them both a hug and a kiss on the cheek before going back to Magnus nodding to the door. Magnus nodded back heading outside carrying the basket on his arm walking silently beside Alec as they headed towards the park. "Listen Magnus I am sorry about earlier. Izzy says I wear too many hats at once and I get a little overwhelmed sometimes." Magnus nodded "there is nothing to be forgiven Alexander." Alec nodded glancing over at Magnus briefly a small smile on his face.

While at the park they both sat near a tree in silence just eating the food Magnus packed and Alec smirked reaching over to take a grape from Magnus's plate popping it into his mouth. Magnus looked up eyebrows raised "what so the grapes on your plate weren't enough that you needed to take mine too?" Alec shrugged a playful smile on his face and Magnus shook his head reaching over to take one of Alec's. "Fair is Fair Alexander" he popped it into his mouth before grabbing his glass of wine. "So tell me who is the real Alexander Lightwood. Is he bakery owner by day and super dad at night or is there a side to him that I haven't discovered yet?" Alec laughed softly shifting to lay down so that he could look up at the sky. "There's not much to me. I've lived with my mom since I opened the bakery. We used to own houses right near one another but after dad left I moved in to help with bills. I adopted Max and had full intentions of moving out to give my mother her space but it was move out and lose the chance of a bakery or stay and chase my dream. We promised each other 1 year and then I'd change plans but a year came and went the bakery became more than just a dream it became my home away from home. The one thing mom and I did together other then spoil my son." Alec turned his head to look at Magnus before continuing. "I didn't grow up with money. I grew up with a sister I adore, a brother my family adopted, and parents who hated one another for different reasons at different points but they never showed us that hate we did grow up as a team. It was the Lightwoods against the rest of the world. We were unstoppable. At some point dad left mom. I still talk to him but he's not exactly the most accepting of all the choices I've made. He does care for Max though always sends the Christmas cards, birthdays, things like that but he's not always around. I'm guarded against relationships because I don't want to be the reason a family gets hurt. Especially not my own. You as a person Magnus doesn't scare me it's the life you live that scares me. I work for what I have. I work to give my son the life he deserves. I work so he grows up knowing someone will always love him. You though you're different. You work for what you have but it comes naturally and it seems effortless. I wish things could be effortless. I want this between us to be effortless so that you don't change who you are for me but I can't promise you effortless. I can however promise you trust. I can promise late night break downs and messy text messages because I'm texting you in the 30 seconds I have to spare. I can't promise you constant fancy dates but I can promise home cooked meals and brown bag lunches at my shop. I can't promise you I'll be this loud and proud partner but I can promise to be the genuine me. If you'll have me as is then I'd be happy to take this one step at a time. I'd be happy to show you the parts of Alec Lightwood you haven't met yet. However I have one condition. You can break my heart but don't break my sons. If I end up not being it for you that's fine but don't hurt Max be his friend. Be the guy he looks up to for fancy Mac and cheese and big restaurants and fancy cars that go fast because that's what fascinates him. I'll try this with you if you promise we take it slow. Strings and all but no pressure just letting it happen organically." Magnus stared at Alec before moving to lay on his side so he was facing him. He reached a hand over stroking Alec's cheek gently "if we do this do I get a discount on cake?" Alec laughed pushing Magnus's hand away playfully. "Seriously I just poured all of me into that statement and you're worried about cake?" Magnus shrugged winking "what can I say Lightwood I have a sweet tooth." Alec blushed looking back towards the sky one of his hands reached out just enough that his pinky is touching Magnus's. Magnus smiled softly just watching Alec stare at the sky letting it stay silent. He was excited and nervous but mostly grateful Alec was going to give him this chance. He thought to himself how different this could be but instead here he is happy and ready for this new chapter. He then gently brushed his pinky up against Alec's all the while thinking to himself, I won't let you down Lightwood, I promise.
