As Jay and Hailey ate the food that Hailey made, out of Jay's very limited pantry in a soothing silence taking little glances at each other. Right now as Jay was sitting opposite of his partner, he has temporarily forgotten about what happened during the day, he just wanted to live in this moment with his partner, he wishes that it could be like this for a long time, him and his partner- he stopped realizing what he was about to think, he looks at Hailey and at the exact moment he looks at her, Hailey looks at him too.
The two stared into each other's eyes, they both wanted to say something to each other, it was long over due for them to say what they wanted to say to each other but instead they both just look away from each other, looking for something else to look at. There was a few more seconds of silence until Hailey looks at Jay and asks, "You alright now?" Jay looks at her and gives her a small smile, he wasn't that alright but he was alright in that moment. Hailey could still see that Jay wasn't that alright, "It takes time to heal, Jay, and sometimes the memories can come back to haunt you but you just gotta be strong, look forward and keep going," Hailey smiles as she says this and gets up from her chair, grabs her plate and Jay's plate but as she grabs Jay's plate, Jay immediately takes ahold of it, "You already made dinner," Jay says as he stands up, takes Hailey's plate from her hand, and heads to the kitchen as Hailey smiled at him and decided to walk around his apartment, she takes a look at the pictures that were displayed on the shelves.
After Jay finished cleaning up, he went to find Hailey and saw her looking at the pictures he placed on his shelves. He walked up to where Hailey was, and sees what she's seeing, "I couldn't really put up that picture before," Jay says continues, "but after therapy I finally got to put it up." Jay and Hailey were both looking at a picture of Jay and other Rangers together, Hailey looks at Jay and smiles. As Hailey looks back at the picture she noticed another on the side, it was a picture of a young Jay and a woman she doesn't recognize, she picks the picture up and was about to ask Jay about it when he says, "That's my mom."
Jay walked to the couch and sat down while Hailey placed the picture back and followed him. Jay sat down on the couch, wondering if it's a good idea to share that story, and as Hailey sat on the couch facing him and he turned to look at her, he saw that Hailey was facing him, she was there to listen to whatever he was going to say. Jay looked forward again and says, "My mom passed when I was overseas, I never really got to say goodbye to her. It was hard losing her and I didn't really have the best relationship with my dad which made it harder," Jay felt a tear form in the corner of his eye but he continues, "My brother and I didn't really see each other that much and that really made me feel alone." Tears were slowly starting to fall from Jay's eyes but he quickly wipes his tears and continues, "When Erin left, it felt like I was reliving what had happened to my mom, it felt like everyone around me was leaving me so when I saw her again today it brought back everything that I thought I moved on from," Jay stops as the memories resurfaced and was unable to continue but he felt Hailey's hand as she softly held his hand, he slowly looks at her as she looks him in the eyes and says, "I'm right here, Jay, and I'm never leaving you."
