Jay knew the voice so well and without thinking twice, he immediately got up to answer the door. Once Jay opened the door, he knew that the person he needed the most right now was right there in front of him, it was his partner, Hailey Anne Upton. Just by looking at her, Jay felt a huge wave of relief pass through him and he relaxed a bit.

"Hey," Hailey says, she glanced at the beer Jay was holding and looks back at Jay and asks, "You wanna talk about it?" Jay tried giving Hailey a smile to try to hide his pain from her but then he realized that he couldn't do that anymore, he couldn't hide anything from her anymore after what happened last time when he was shot, he couldn't do that to Hailey again. Hailey tilted her head to the side, pursing her lips, Jay says, "Hailey," as he looked down. Hailey could see and hear how Jay was in pain as he said her name, she took a step forward as she wrapped her arms around him.

In that moment as Hailey wrapped her arms around Jay, she heard a sigh of relief as Jay's shoulders relax. She was wrong to think that Jay didn't need her, that he blamed her for all that has happened with Erin, she was wrong and that also made her feel a sense of relief as she relaxed. After a while, Hailey and Jay broke off their hug and Hailey gave Jay a reassuring smile, telling him that she was there for him, that she was not going to leave him. Jay moved aside to open the door wider as he let Hailey in.

Hailey got in Jay's place, she looked around and the place was pretty tidy, there were already a few empty beer bottles on the coffee table beside his couch. Jay went beside Hailey and offered her a beer, she took it and Jay went to have a sit on the couch with Hailey following behind him.

Hailey looks at Jay and asks, "You still wanna talk about it?" Jay leans back, took a sip of his beer as he sighs and says, "I thought I moved on from it, Hailey, and I knew therapy helped me but when I saw her right there,"Jay paused and looked at Hailey, she could see that he was still in pain as he continues to say, "Everything came rushing in, all the feelings, what I felt after she left, the frustration, the pain and it made me remember what happened to my mom." Jay has never talked to Hailey about his mom before, he was scared to relive it, looked away from Hailey as he took another sip of his beer. Hailey sat a little closer to Jay as she placed her hand gently on his back telling him that she was there for him, she didn't really know what to say to him because she, herself, didn't really know how to deal with this yet, she usually just puts it aside and forget about it.

After a long while of silence and Hailey just comforting Jay, she set her beer down on the center table in front of her and got up from her seat, she walked towards the kitchen and started going through it. Jay watches her, he got curious and asks, "What are you doing?" Hailey was still bustling in the kitchen, but she stops and looks at Jay right in the eyes. "What does it look like I'm doing," Hailey asks sarcastically but Jay raised an eyebrow and says, "Hailey, you don't really have to—," he immediately stopped talking when Hailey suddenly stops what she was doing. Hailey looks at Jay, she sighed and says, "Jay, look at you. You're a mess right now and as your partner the least I can do, other than listen to you and watch you sulk, is to take care of you because I don't wanna lose you." Hailey froze in shock as she said those last words, she didn't really mean to say that but every time she's around Jay, he makes her feel like she could let her guard down around him and she just trusts him so much that she can show her vulnerable side to him.

After hearing what Hailey said, it was like there was a switch in Jay and a small smile started to form on his face as he looks at Hailey, "Aww, you care about me," he teases Hailey. "And here I thought you were miserable," Hailey says, not letting Jay get the last word. Jay was grateful for Hailey and he knew that he had someone in his life that he knows would always be there for him through thick and thin. This moment is the kind of moment that Jay cherishes in their partnership, these are the moments that help him go through whatever he was going through day after day. After a while, Hailey stopped bustling in the kitchen, "You ready to eat," she asks as she walks toward the dining table.
