Karlie thought it would be an easy night when she asked Taylor what she wanted to do for her birthday dinner. Taylor told her she just wanted to stay in and have Karlie cook her favorite meal followed by a pint of her favorite ice cream while they watch a film that she's been meaning to see. They were celebrating a few days in advance before they both flew out to Nashville to spend Taylor's actual birthday with her family.

Karlie didn't know she'd get some of the details wrong, though.

The dinner part of the night is easy enough.

Taylor's favorite meal is her mom's brisket, a comfort food that Taylor always asks for whenever she's home. Andrea gave Karlie the recipe a year into their relationship because she knew how useful it would be. Andrea also gave it to Karlie because she got tired of having to make it so much, so she figured she'd leave that job up to Karlie now. Though Karlie is sure she'll never be able to replicate the real deal.

Dinner goes well. Taylor is amazed the little details that Karlie remembers like the cranberry balsamic vinegar that she found while on tour in Germany, or the fresh Parmesan cheese on the salad. Taylor eats her fill, telling Karlie that's she's nearly copied it. The two taste almost exactly the same, but the atmosphere of eating it at home with her family on a fall Nashville Sunday afternoon will always mean her mom's is slightly better. Which Karlie won't refuse anyways. She won't refuse the small peck that Taylor gives her as she gets Taylor's dishes to let them soak in the sink.

The movie part is easy as well, who doesn't love cuddling under blankets with arms wrapped around the ones you love?

The ice cream part is what Karlie gets wrong and she honestly can't believe it.

It should've been the easiest part, all she had to do was buy Taylor's favorite brand from the store.

Apparently it isn't that easy, though.

Taylor's settled on the couch with the title menu for The Spy that Dumped Me queued up on the TV when Karlie walks in with the container of strawberry ice cream and two spoons.

The curious look she gets from Taylor when she notices the ice cream throws her for a loop. "What's wrong?" Karlie asks her cautiously. "Is it the calorie intake because we don't have to eat this."

"Strawberry isn't my favorite."

The singer doesn't say it in a snotty way, like she can't believe Karlie would mess up the one thing she actually wanted for her birthday. In fact, she says it casually as she reaches for the carton and digs her spoon in, like she's confused why Karlie would think this is her favorite, but it's ice cream after all, so she isn't going to complain.

"What are you talking about? Yes it is," Karlie insists, completely at a loss for how she could've gotten this wrong.

She's known Taylor's favorite flavor of ice cream since their third date when she ordered a cone for them to share as they walked the boardwalk. It's the same ice cream she's ordered every time since. Karlie's always loved that they had the same favorite ice cream, so she doesn't understand why Taylor's suddenly saying it isn't.

"It is not," Taylor tells her again, with a laugh this time.

Still, Taylor doesn't seem bothered. She seems perfectly content to eat the ice cream anyway and presses play on the movie, an excited glint in her eye like she can't wait to laugh at what Kate will do on screen.

Karlie isn't going to let it go so easily, though. She reaches over for the remote and pauses the movie again, ignoring the complaining 'hey' she gets from the older girl.

"What do you mean strawberry ice cream isn't your favorite?"

"It's really not a big deal, sweetheart," Taylor mumbles around another spoonful.
