Karlie was warm when she woke up. The sheets all around her were cocooning her and the pillow under her head was pressing against her just right. The mattress was perfect under her body. Everything was perfect.

But what was most perfect, Karlie was certain, was the girl wrapped in her arms, who pressed backward against Karlie at the sound of the alarm ringing through the room. Karlie slung her arm back to smack her phone off, sighing as she fitted herself back up against the singer. Taylor twisted around a little in the circle of Karlie's arms, squirming until the tight hold the model had around her relented just a little.

When they were face to face, Karlie had to breathe in a little, suddenly at a loss for air. It was disarming to wake up to Taylor's face, even though she intended to do so for the rest of her life.

She didn't get to do it often enough.

Taylor smiled blearily, reaching upward and combing her fingers through Karlie's probably wild hair, until her fingertips were pressing and releasing in a pleasing pattern against the sides of the model's head. Taylor's shorter body was tight against Karlie's and her breath fell along the model's cheeks and she just wanted to kiss her, to pull her closer, to pull her in as close as possible.

Karlie had pretty much devolved into sappiness thanks to Taylor Swift. She couldn't bring herself to care, especially when Taylor was giggling quietly as Karlie leaned forward to capture her lips.

It was sweet and passionate at the same time, somehow, a product of being away from each other too often, but Taylor squirmed just a little closer, her fingers sliding down Karlie's neck and scratching lightly on her back. And it was just kissing - just kissing, but it was everything that ever meant anything to Karlie.

Everything felt a lot less warm when Taylor pulled away and snuggled her chin up under the model's, pushing them over so that the singer was on top of Karlie who was now flat on her back, her fingers running up and down Karlie's ribs while Karlie's own hands rubbed up under the shirt that Taylor must've stolen last night after the show from Karlie's suitcase.

"Your flight leaves in three hours," Taylor whispered softly, and Karlie frowns at the way the words break over the warm morning. She knew, of course she knew, but hearing Taylor say it with such finality made everything seem so real. It was always like this when they met up. Quick, only able to stay for a few days between shows or shoots.

They snuggled all over the place, ate, and pretty much lived like they were married - a more and more common thought that was starting to itch at Karlie with each too-short visit. Four years of a few days or a week at a time, every month or so. Being able to squeeze in a get away for the two of them. But they were almost finished. They were almost finished.

So Karlie just kissed the top of Taylor's head and pressed her palms into her back, pulling them closer together before pushing her head backwards onto the pillow and closing her eyes against the feeling that by the end of the day, she wouldn't have this, this girl in her arms.

It got worse every successive time either of them left. During new year's Taylor had postponed her flight four times and ended up staying in New York until the day before Taylor really needed to leave to continue to film in London, Karlie's career had been great for her and she loved it more than she ever has, but being away from Taylor was the biggest thing on her mind these days. There wasn't ever a moment where they weren't talking to each other, or texting, or sexting (and Taylor had sure as hell gotten the hang of that ,or Skyping. They were always striving to be as connected as possible despite their busy lives. In the times, when they were with each other though, they cherished every moment.

And so they just lay like that as Chicago's busy streets still bustled somewhere below them, wrapped up in each other and missing what wasn't yet gone.
