I know that Taylor didn't write this song. (Also please look up Bruno Major. He's a genius.) I made Taylor sing//write these lyrics in the story and I've changed some of the wording slightly but look up the song if you'd like and let me know what you think. Happy reading! :)

There were days where Taylor saw her entire future with Karlie by her side. The blonde-haired, green-eyed, goofy-minded girl often brought out enough hope in Taylor that maybe one day, but only maybe, they could be more than friends.

But there were also days where Taylor pushed that hope and vision out the window. Karlie was her best friend. If they were to ever be anything more than friends, that could also mean potentially losing her forever if things went wrong.

She couldn't risk that. She'd rather have Karlie in her life as just a friend than not at all.

But then Karlie did things like bring her takeout dinner after long days. Or massage her feet after they went for a run together (despite Taylor's protests that they were sweaty and gross). Or played with her fingers under the table at dinners with their other friends. Or kissed her forehead or her temple or her hair when she hugged her hello and goodbye. Or occasionally slept over at her place because she was "too comfy to go home" despite living less than 10 minutes away. Each time she did so, she somehow eventually ended up holding Taylor from behind while they slept in her bed.

So, yeah, maybe they acted like they were more than just best friends. But it was all unspoken and, therefore, unofficial, keeping them at a standstill behind the threshold to becoming lovers.

Their friends often teased them for acting like a couple. Martha would 'awww' when she would catch them giving each other lingering smiles. Cara would smack Karlie's head and tell her to "stop staring at Taylor's ass" when they went out and Taylor decided to wear especially tight fitting dresses. Derek would ask them to go on double dates with him and his partner, Nick (an offer they took up a few times under the insistence that it was a 'friend gathering').

They both had no idea when or how things started to change between them. It seemed like one day they were only seeing each other when they were with all of their friends and another they were hanging out just the two of them. It wasn't just the VSFS or Big Sur but the moments leading up to it, maybe the moments in between, or the moments after. Taylor wasn't sure.

Neither of them addressed it. Taylor let herself pass it off as "just getting closer" and Karlie - Karlie didn't know what she wanted to pass it off as.

Karlie wanted more. Karlie wanted Taylor. But she also knew that the girl was hesitant and not so willing to take things further. So she respected her wishes, but she still liked her a whole lot and she sure as hell showed it.

She touched Taylor when she could. She kissed Taylor any place appropriate for 'friends.' She pretended to be cold just so she could cuddle the singer. She asked for Taylor's sweats and hoodies so she could be more comfortable when she was over (and did the same for her when the roles were reversed) but she really just loved to smell the girl's scent off the fabric. She picked the older girl up when they went places together, always getting out of the car, bounding up the apartment steps, giving her a tight hug and a soft kiss somewhere on her head behind the door away from prying eyes and lenses, before opening the passenger door for her, and then jogging around the front of the car to get in on her own side. It always looked like something straight out of a movie about high school kids going on first dates (except they never considered their "hangouts" as dates).

But then Karlie started getting more restless every time Taylor would stalemate their progress.

Karlie would try to hold her hand under the table instead of just playing with her fingers. Taylor would close her fist lightly. The model would try to joke about their "adventures" basically being dates. Taylor would give her that look - the one that told her she shouldn't take it further. Karlie would try to kiss a little closer to her mouth, but never dangerously. Taylor would turn away in the slightest, always being hyper aware of the model's movements.
