Philosophy class was done before I knew it. Surprisingly, the Matthew kid didn't bother to speak again in the class, as he was too immersed in his own writing. And before I knew it, break was only a couple of minutes away. I had agreed to meet up with Sam in the music room, as we only shared a couple of classes together. The bell rang and I walked to the music room with my book bag over my shoulder. It was a gift from my brother, a long, messenger leather bag, it was nice and comfortable, and all my books fit perfectly.
I arrived at the music room and inside, there were already a couple of people there. In the drum set was a tall, blonde-ish guy. He was handsome, and other two guys."Hi." I said quietly as I made my way to one of the guitars that were in the back of the room. "Do you mind if me and a friend practice here for a couple of minutes?" I asked as I pointed to the guitars in front of me. "Sure, we'll be out of here in a minute anyway, we're just waiting for a friend," another guy said as he smiled kindly. I smiled back and picked up one of the guitars, only to pull out a chair and sit on it with the guitar on my lap, tuning it as best as my ear could.
A couple of minutes after, Sam walked in with a big smile, and two bags of popcorns in his hands. I smiled and he sat next to me, and behind him walked in the Matthew guy, smiling at the other three guys by the drum set.
"Hey girlie !" Said Sam, almost yelling out of excitement. I smiled at them as they settled next to me and my guitar, and my eyes travelled to the group, they all suddenly seemed familiar, despite me not seeing them frequently on the school grounds. "Okay, let's do this." Said Sam, as he took a sip of his starbucks tea. I began to play the first couple of strings, and I suddenly felt the eyes of the other group traveling to me. I swallowed and Sam began to sing along. I began to feel nervousness travel through my body, and breathing became a little difficult, however, I pushed through the rest of the song, messing up only a couple of times due to the nervousness. When Sam sang the last word, and I plucked the last sting, we heard a small array of claps coming from the group of boys next to us. Sam got up and did an exaggerated reverence to them, as if he had just sang the most complex opera in the world, I just smiled at them nervously, avoiding eye-contact with Matthew.
"You guys are really good!" Said the tall guy, my eyes travelled to him. He was still sitting on the drum set, seeming almost natural. "Do you want to hear us play?" He asked, as he sent a cheeky grin to the rest of the guys.
"Sure!" Yelled Sam, as they sat in one of the chairs in front of the group. I followed Sam, opening the bag of popcorn they had previously brought for me, and I settled next to them on the floor."Okay, this song's an original and it's called Robbers." My eyes quickly widened as I saw the group play the first notes of the song. My body almost traveling back to the moment I heard the song for the first time, it seemed almost like I was meant to listen to this song again. My heart skipped a beat. "She had a face straight out a magazine.." I couldn't believe my ears. I felt sudden excitement fill my body, and I even let out a big smile all over my face, which Sam noticed, and they gave me a "what the fuck?" kind of look.
The song reached the final bridge, and I whispered to myself "you look so cool" at the same time that Matthew sang it. I felt a little tickling in my throat, I made eye contact with him for the first time, as the song came to a close.
"How do you know our song?" Matthew asked as soon as the song ended. I could feel my heart beating so fast against my chest, that if I opened my mouth it would most definitely jump out and move to the french country side and begin a new life.
"I, uh, heard you guys play in the park the other day." I said quietly, almost wanting to either combust in that moment or simply implode. A light appeared in front of all the guys' faces, and I suddenly felt some relief. I didn't want them thinking I was some sort of creep who was following them around. "Did you like the set? We worked really hard on it." The guy behind the drums said with a huge smile, and I felt my heart warm at the sight. "Yeah ! I loved it, I couldn't stop thinking about Robbers though, I loved it." The guys looked amongst each other, almost as if they had just told them they won the lottery.
"I'm Sam, this is Mae. Nice to meet you guys." Said Sam, stretching out their hand to shake it with the guys, however only one did shake it, the others just looked at them oddly.
"I'm Adam" said the guy who shook Sam's hand. "This is Matty", pointing at Matthew from philosophy class, "George", behind the drum set, "and Ross", with the bass. I took a minute to properly recognize each one of them so I wouldn't mix them up by accident.
"So when are you guys having another gig? I mean we need to listen to more of your music." Said Sam, with a big smile, with something behind it. A plan, probably.
