My mind paced, trying to think of something to text back in a way that I could keep it cool. "Hi Jamie! Nice to hear from you. Top Golf sounds great! What time?" Almost immediately after sending it, I got a text from Ana.
"Did you text him yet????"
"Literally just did it. Perfect timing! Would you be able to come?" Accompanied by a screenshot of the current conversation.
"I really wish I could but I've gotta do something for work."
"Well that sucks..." Just before I sent the text off, another one came in from Jamie: "11am. See you there?"
"For sure."
Back to Ana: "I know, sorry! But keep me up to date with the guy! I wanna hear about it later!!" I sent her the message he sent and told her "will do."
Now, what could I wear that's casual but cute?
I flipped through my wardrobe a couple of times, tried things on and ultimately landed on my favorite jeans, a flowy tank and a pair of sneakers. Cute without looking like I'm trying too hard. By the time I completed the finishing touches and pulled on my shoes, it was noon and I made my way over to meet with Jamie and his friends.
---
I was definitely a little nervous on my way there and once I parked and made my way into the building, the nervousness increased and I could feel my stomach flutter. By the time I rounded the corner and saw his friends in their bay, I could hear my heart in my ears. Deep breath, fake confidence even if you feel like hiding in a corner. You got this. As I got closer, he turned to look at me and I noticed his face light up. "Drea! You made it!" He wrapped me in a quick hug and kept his arm on my shoulders as he introduced me to everyone. They were a decent sized group of good looking, athletic guys and each introduced themselves to me as Jamie grabbed us drinks.
"Take my turn if I'm not back by then." He called out over his shoulder.
"Okay." It was so cute to see him excitedly bouncing around. His turn was next so a couple of the guys helped me pick out a club and showed me what to do. I gripped it like how I thought I remembered from high school and gave it my best thwack. Just before I took my next swing, Jamie came back with drinks. Again, I swung the club back and hit the ball. Eh...not bad. I put the club back in its holder and received high fives from a few of the guys on my way to the couch. Jamie scooched over slightly so I could sit next to him. "Good swing, Drea. Did you get it in one of the holes?" I nodded excitedly, I just couldn't help it.
"Thanks, but it was just okay. I'm interested in seeing how you do."
One of his friends turned around, "Yeah, get ready to laugh."
"Shut up Segs!" He said playfully as he threw something at him and rolled his eyes. "I'd like to see you do better!"
"Every time, Riggy." He replied with a Cheshire Cat smile. I sat back and enjoyed the guys' banter. At times, I felt awkward being the only girl, but they didn't seem to notice or care and Jamie made sure I was having a good time.
"Sooooo, how do you guys know each other?" I finally decided to ask after wondering for the time we were all there.
"Oh, umm..." he hesitated a bit as if he was trying to find the right word. "We know each other...from....from work."
Some in the group turned around and looked at him strangely as I looked back at them questioningly. One of his friends chimed in somewhat sarcastically, "Yeah, and we're working tonight. You're welcome to come and see what we do." Okay, that was definitely weird. Working at night in a town that's not your own that I could come and see??
