When I awoke, Jamie was up watching TV. I stared at him for a second before asking, "So....what's going on with that?" I pointed to his facial hair. For as long as we'd been dating, he was usually clean shaven or had a 5 o'clock shadow. When I watched the playoffs, I did notice a moustache and slight beard going. But now, he had shaved it down into...something. Along with the moustache, he was now sporting hair that outlined his chin, but not on his chin. It was an interesting choice to say the least.

"What? You don't like it?"

I did my best to be diplomatic. "Ummm...I love you," I stated with a smile. He started tickling me in return. Once I caught my breath, I asked him, "so, what do you want to do for the rest of the day?"

"Pretty much this. But I was thinking we could do something tomorrow."

"What did you have in mind?"

"I haven't been to a baseball game in a while." I turned and smiled at him. It had been a while for me too and I was hoping to go to a game with him. Thankfully, with Ana working for the Dbacks, getting decent tickets would be easy. Usually.

The next day, I called up Ana. "Hey! How's work been?"

"Okay, okay. How many do you need?"

"Two would be great!"

"For when?"

"For tomorrow night?" They were playing the Brewers and with the recent signing of a certain former Boston Red Sox player, it was guaranteed to be more difficult than usual. "Please?"

"Yikes, umm...I can't guarantee decent seats but, you'll be there I guess."

"You're the best! I owe you!"

"Yes, I know." An hour later, the tickets were sent to my phone.

——

I had never used the downtown tram, today seemed like a good day to try it to enjoy downtown and not fight for parking. It was yet another hot Phoenix day so Jamie and I made plans to go to a pub downtown and imbibe some beers before the game. We found seats near the cool air and a nearby tv playing a different baseball game: Red Sox vs Tampa Bay.

Jamie pointed toward the tv, "so, who's your team?"

"Oh Red Sox all the way."

"Really? Why is that?"

"Ana"

"Okay, that makes sense."

"Well? Okay, so who's yours?"

"The Blue Jays..of course." He tipped his beer to the side, emphasizing his point. "I mean,I didn't follow them super close. My dad was more of a fan since he played baseball in high school but he took us to a couple of games a year."

"Just imagining a little you at a ballpark is very adorable." I smiled at him. "Well, we had a very minor league baseball team where I'm from. The stadium was right on the island on the river in the city. Because of that, there were mayflies all over the place. One year, when I was a kid, they gave out these mini baseball bats as giveaways for a game and my brother and I and some friends would swat at the mayflies as they started coming out. But one landed on this guy sitting in front of us, and one of us kids almost hit at him with the bat." Jamie broke out in laughter mid-sip, spraying me with some beer which threw us into a giggle fit.

By our 3rd beer, we were definitely a little sillier but not doing too bad. After we downed it, he paid and we walked the block and a half to the stadium. It was still very hot outside but blessedly cooling down as it got late. We joined one of the streams of people walking towards Chase field. Though our hands were sweaty and sticky from the heat and beer, we walked hand in hand towards our seats. Ana made it seem like our seats would be way at the top but from where we were, we could just about see the face of any player at 3rd. And thankfully they were located on the end of the aisle making it easy to get up if need be. Once we sat down and scoped the view from the seats, I was starting to get thirsty again but debated if it was worth getting up with all this heat and bodies walking around. So, I put on my best flirty pouty lip and batted my eyes at Jamie before asking, "Hey J, I'm getting thirsty."
