POV: Second Person
The day was sweltering, you can barely stand it as you lean against one of the bright colored buildings studying a map. You know it seems very apocalyptic to walk on foot to the nearest town or city but you want out of this freakish place, now. The longer you stay the weirder things seem. All the kids are dressed the same, the women all wear the same hairstyle and the men are matching too. You look so out of place and stick out like a sore thumb. Wiping your brow you look for somewhere, literally anywhere else to go and find nothing within walking distance. Just by the look of these people it's safe to assume not a single one of them would be willing to give you a lift. Sighing you fold back up the map and head back toward the Inn, a cold shower sounded nice. As you walk back up the street you pass by several children playing skip rope and singing a chilling song.
Up the mountain up, up, up
Where the monsters are stuck, stuck stuck
You'll hear them scream, you'll hear them cry
If you're really lucky you'll hear one die...
The song made you stop and stare at the girls who laughed while jumping in and out of the rope. Your face crumpled and your stomach dropped. How horrible, how unbelievably terrible. Children singing about the pain and suffering of the monsters, monsters who were your friends. You thought about walking up to the little girls and screaming about how they ought to be ashamed of themselves for singing such a hateful song, but a small hand gripped your shoulder tight enough it made you stiffen. Slowly you glance beside you and find the lady from the bakery staring at the little girls with a small smile upon her face. "Aren't they precious, so innocent and sweet." The woman said with her soft and kind voice, but you could feel the lining in her words. She knew the songs were making you angry but you tighten your fist and force yourself to smile and nod.
Grab the pitchforks! grab the stakes!
Grab the torches! Open the gates!
The monsters are coming to steal our homes
Our homes! Our homes!
The monsters are coming to steal our homes
Our homes! Our homes!
Sliding out of the woman's hold, you resume, you walk back toward the Inn and to your horror you find the woman falling into step beside you. "I'm sorry to bother you, but I don't know if you recall but we met yesterday? I never got your name and gosh it's been bothering me all day." Swallowing you try to keep your easy pace and continue walking, without looking over you say, "It's (Y/n)." You reach the Inn. Turning you find the woman grinning at you, it sends a shiver down your spine. "What a lovely name! My name is Grinelle." she said, extending a hand.
"Oh, thanks. You have a lovely name as well, very unique."
"Yes, my mother was a very creative woman. The founder of this little town of ours actually. My family has been running this place for years."
Shaking Grinelle's hand, you try not to look uncomfortable as you process the new information. "Wow that's really impressive." You lie as you think for ways to escape this painful conversation. "Are you going to be staying long here in Laria? We have several available lodgings for rent or for sale."
"No no I don't plan to be staying long, just until the public transit is back up and running."
"Oh really...what a shame..."
You decide that you really- don't like the way she said that and you are now reconsidering the whole walking for days to a new city like you're in an apocalyptic movie. "Yea..." you said backing up a bit toward the Inn doors. "So you agree? You think it's a shame you're not staying longer?" You blinked, did she just? You also decide that you need to get the hell out of here immediately. "Uh, I just said that as a courtesy... I really should be getting inside now...Have a nice afternoon Grinelle." Without waiting for a response from her you calmly walk inside. Every single cell in your body is screaming for you to run but if you're being completely honest you're afraid of what would happen if you display how uncomfortable this whole place really made you...
You refuse to spend another night in the gods forsaken place.
A/n: A short chapter I know! But I hope you all enjoy it anyways. Hope you all have been well! Love you all sooo much <3 <3 <3
