"rebecca kissed you? did madeline see?" a muffled voice exclaimed.
"i don't think so! i hope not-"
madeline and jaeden opened the door to the hotel room right before madeline could figure out who was speaking.
"oh hey guys. um, how'd it go?" noah changed the subject.
"we deleted the video. we'll be okay megs." jaeden smiled.
"oh my god. thank you guys so much. you have no idea how much that means to me." megan sighed in relief.
"yeah of course," madeline gave a slight smile, "i'm gonna go to bed guys. night."
everyone said their goodbyes as madeline quickly left the hotel room. noah followed quickly behind, wanting to talk to madeline.
"mads, wait up!" noah said.
"why? you can go hang out with them for the night. i'm just pretty tired." madeline explained.
"you're just tired?" noah asked, bewildered.
"yep!"
madeline walked faster to the door of their hotel room to avoid any conversation with noah.
"i know you're not just tired, mads what's wrong? is it about rebecca?" noah stepped in front of the door.
"no- but why did you kiss her?"
"i didn't! she kissed me, did you not see that?" noah laughed.
"i know, but from my perspective it kind of looked like you enjoyed it." madeline mumbled.
"i would never want to kiss her or get back together with her. she has tried to ruin your life, and our friends. i'd never do that, mads." noah said softly.
"okay, noah. i'm just gonna go to bed-" madeline got cut off.
"i don't like rebecca, but why do you even care if i kiss her? it's not like you like me or something."
"i'm just looking out for you. you're my best friend." madeline lied.
"i'm sorry mads. i shouldn't have-" noah started before madeline shut the door, not letting him finish.
"goodnight madeline." noah sighed.

madeline tossed and turned in the bed. once again, the two teens only had one bed to share which would make this night a whole lot more awkward. she kept replaying rebecca and noah's kiss in her head and her conversation with noah afterwards. a part of her was waiting for noah to come back and hold her while she fell asleep.
the door opened softly, and madeline decided to pretend to be asleep. noah changed into a different pair of clothes and went into the restroom for a couple minutes before climbing into bed, alongside madeline. noah waited a couple minutes before deciding, madeline was definitely asleep.
"i think you're asleep, you look really pretty," noah whispered, "okay now i'm just a creep i should stop."
madeline smiled before realizing she didn't want to blow her cover. noah sighed before he continued speaking.
"um, i think this is the only time i'll ever get the courage to tell you this but, i really like you madeline. i know you're asleep and you can't hear me but i really like you. i thought it was obvious by now but i think you're the only one who has no idea. i was a dick for what i said today, and i'm sorry." noah let out a breath, he didn't realize he was holding.
"you've been my best friend for longer than i can even remember- and i've liked you ever since eighth grade. i remember in eighth grade, we went to the formal together because we were best friends and i thought i might've liked you before that but seeing you that day made me realize. i definitely liked you. not to be corny but, you're one of the sweetest people i know. and you're so thoughtful- i'll never forget the birthday present you gave me this past year. you made a huge poster board filled with pictures of us from the first day we met to the most recent pictures. and on the other side you left a big note for me. i still read that sometimes. and then you brought me to the lake where we declared that we were going to be best friends. i think we were about 5 when we did that. and you cooked all of my favorite foods and bought those cookies i love from that bakery. oh and i remember when i moved houses, only a few streets down, but you still helped me and my family move everything. and you helped me paint my room and redo all of it. and thank you for visiting me every week at work. i always look forward to seeing you and it made the day much more tolerable. you're like the perfect girl, madeline."
madeline's heart was racing and pounding. no one had ever showed that much interest in her. noah had seemed to remember every little thing she had ever done for her. she didn't realize all of the signs that everyone pointed out about noah liking her. she was completely oblivious the whole time.
"madeline, i think i may even be in love with you."
