Before the Christmas Ball/Hermione's POV:

"Shit happens."

"Can I have some 'Weasley's puffy face solution for every occasion', Mione?", Lavender asked shyly.

"Uhm, yes of course!", I replied from my bed and took the small bottle out the first drawer of my wooden bedside table.

"Thanks, Mione", Lavender smiled and applied some of the gelly potion on her face. "I needed this so much! Blimey, my face was so bloody puffy, but now, it isn't anymore!"

"No problem, Lav. I mean we are friends, right?", I started. "So why were you giving me those strange looks a few days ago? Did I do anything that bothered you? If I in fact did, I'm so sorry I-"

"It's not your fault, Mione. I was just concerned whether there's anything going on between you and Draco. Unfortunately, I mustn't tell you why. You'll know later", she explained. What will I know later? And why mustn't she tell me?

"Anyway, who's going to be your date for the ball?", I wondered while I walked to my closet. I didn't have a date yet, which doesn't matter. I don't need a date to rock the ball, right?

"Uhm, my date is going to be me, myself and I. I asked Seamus, but he was already going with Dean, so I'll go alone. What about you?"

"Same here. Lav, should I wear this pink dress?", I pointed my finger on the dress I was holding. Although I picked this dress earlier this week, I wasn't sure whether it's going to be perfect.

"Bloody hell, it's wonderful! The flouncy fabric looks so elegant, and the ribbons are in the right places! I think the V-Line and the long length are matching so good with the rosy color, you'll look amazing", she complimented my dress, while she put on her own.

Her dress was beautiful. The heart-shaped neckline, the silky fabric, the lavender color, and the lace on her waist with the rest of her jewelry, ugh it's a dream. Not that I was jealous, in fact, my dress looked pretty matching with the silver heels and my silver, heart-shaped earrings. My red hair was in an updo bun, just like her blonde hair.

To finish my look, I levitated my perfume from our rooms makeup table. Although the flacon seemed to be empty, I sprayed the perfume easily on my wrists, behind my ears, and on my neck. Just in case anything bad could happen, I tried to learn some extra deficiency spells while I waited for Lavender, who was still putting on her makeup.

"Just cast a makeup-spell", I joked while I sat back on the edge of her cozy bed.

"Not funny, Mione. You know how obsessed I am with perfectionism. By the way, where's Ginny?", she asked confused.

Oh, Ginny. The last time I saw here was at the breakfast table, from there on, she has vanished. Though it's already 5 o'clock, the redhead didn't even come to our dormitory to dress herself up.

And like she's been spying on us, she emerged in our dormitory suddenly.

"Lavender, Harry is going to be my date! He'll arrive soon! But you mustn't tell Hermione about you-know-what-I-mean or she'll be mad at both of us!", she squealed.

"Gin, there's nothing going on between you-know-who-I-mean and her!", Lavender shrugged. "At least she doesn't admit anything."

I looked at Ginny, she was in her short, red dress already. Then I sighed and raised my eyebrow while saying: "Hello Ginny, what are you trying to hide?"

"Oh, for Merlin's sake, I didn't see you, Mione. You'll hate me, anyway, hold your seat and listen carefully.", she responded while she took a wooden chair. "As you might it be acknowledged by you already, Harry's going to come to Hogwarts. To be more specific, he'll arrive in about half an hour. Unfortunately, his dumbass told Ron about the ball. So my brother insisted to come with him. Which means-"

"Wait, why would Ron want to come with him? Didn't we break up?", I interrupted her sad sounding speech.

"Indeed you did, unofficially. He just doesn't get it. He's still in love with you, but was too shy to write you a letter, Harry reported me. We thought about how we could persuade him to stay at his, but as I already told you, he insisted to come and see you", she babbled insecurely.

"No problem, Gin," I smirked to hold back my feelings. "We are officially still together, and I don't have a date either, so he could be my date."

"But what about Malfoy?", Lavender and Ginny chorused quietly.

"Ugh, I don't care about him. He doomed me for somebody else. Yes, it's his future wife, but he doomed me anyway. Should I tell you earlier? Yes, indeed. Did I? Negative", I hissed at them, trying to persuade myself of not caring for Draco.

As soon as we have gotten through the entrance of the Great Hall, my focus lied on Ron. He was standing in front of me, smiling warmly as nothing happened. And although he was shivering on his knees, he cleared his throat.

"Hi, Hermione. Er-haven't saw you in a while, I guess", Ron smiled weakly and gave me a kiss on my cheek.

At the moment I was able to give him an answer again, my heart sank down to my heels. Draco has been observing us from one corner. I lost my eyes in his piercing ones and felt like I was petrified. I told him a few months ago how Ron and I broke up and now he caught Ron kissing my cheek.

"Mione? Everything okay?", Ron examined me.

"Ugh, yes I think so", I mumbled anxiously while I was holding the eye contact to Draco nonetheless.
