The week before Christmas break/ Hermione's POV:

"The truth doesn't cost you anything, but a lie could cost you everything"

Today, my dreams were interrupted by the delicious smell of candy canes and the sound of wizard Christmas songs. And then, right after I woke up, the first thing I recognized was Ginny and Lavender dancing in their Christmas jumpers, Ginny's was scarlet and Lavender's was lavender, who had thought, to some wizard Christmas songs.

"Good morning, Mione", they chorused. "Join us!"

To be honest, they weren't inviting me to dance with them, they were forcing me.

"Ugh, I just woke up. But okay", I groaned.

So I jumped off my pine bed and put on my pink Christmas jumper and joined them for one or two songs. While we danced, Lavender gave me weird looks occasionally, like she was hiding something from me.

She cleared her throat loudly and asked curiously: "Mione, how are the things between you and Draco going?"

"There's nothing going on between going me and him!", I lied and examined my Christmas-theme painted nails which became interesting all of the sudden.

"I know that there's something between you both!", she snapped back.

"Yes, project work. If you aren't believing me, here's our project", I replied and showed her our folder, which was both red and green and had our initials on in golden letters. I used a spell to circle our initials with an, only for us, visible heart.

"Hm, okay", she shrugged.

"Believe me or not, anyway it's none of your business", I shrugged in order to end the conversation.

"Girls, we should go to breakfast now", Ginny added. She had noticed how awkward the situation was. Why would Lavender care that much?

Throughout the course of breakfast, Lavender was always observing me from a few tables away from us. It wasn't hard to cope with her absence, moreover, it was harder to cope with the constant looks of her. Because of her looks, I couldn't respond to Draco's perfect smile he gave me from the other side of the big hall.

In fact, he's a smart guy: He sent me a parchment airplane with a bow kiss, which Lavender didn't see since Ginny started to talk to her again, although they sat a few tables away from each other.

I wouldn't be me if I hadn't taken the chance to catch Draco's small, but well- folded parchment plane. After I caught it, I rushed to unfold it and started reading, or rather skimming through the neatly written message:

Are you okay? You seem to ignore me, did I do anything to bother you? Hopefully not!

PS: That look in your eye has my insides dancing the conga, I hope you could look in mine as well though.

DM

Next to the message was a moving cartoon of a boy bow kissing a girl, he's probably the boy and I'm supposed to be the girl, I guess. Before I could reread his charming message, the message had disappeared already. I never hated to keep us a secret more than at that moment. When I would be allowed to, I'd run to his table and give him a kiss on his soft lips. But instead of me, Greengrass was running to him, probably because she just entered the hall fifteen minutes late.

His message made my insides feel like dancing the conga as well, and as I started to write a response, Professor McGonagall begged for our attention with her penetrating looks.

"Good morning students", she started. "To speak for every single teacher here, I'd like to announce the deadline for the 8th grader's projects: Friday before spring break. Anyway, there's something else I'd like to announce. We would like to invite you to the first Christmas ball for such a long time! I remember how I was going to my time's Christmas ball and it was amazing, I was crowned Prom Witch! So, why not having one again?"

That was when Draco's and my eyes met for the first time today. We both smiled, it was like he was asking me to go to the ball with me. I was waiting to get an invitation from him at the Yule Ball, but I went with Viktor. Nonetheless, we danced a bit together and it was amazing! I'd like to experience him as a date this time.

In my point of view, Greengrass showed disapproval of this idea more than obviously.

"Draco and I will be Prom Witch and Prom Wizard, right honey?", she squealed through the echoing hall and when she saw me, she looked at me with an expression of disgust.

"Yes, of course", Draco mumbled with low confidence in his words. In the next moment, he stood up with the brown-haired girl who pulled him to the exit of the hall. Weird that it seemed like he was going with her voluntarily.

When they had walked to the door made of stone, Draco saw me almost sobbing. I was just disappointed; why would he go with her voluntarily? His feelings for me are real, or is he just playing me? Maybe that was what Lavender wanted to tell me in the morning. Ugh, I'm such a fool for Draco. And now when I think about it, I forgot to ask him yesterday why he wouldn't stand up for his parents!

Sitting on the wooden bench like I have been petrified, I went through my assumption once again. That would be so logical and would explain everything. But would Draco do such things?

"Hermione, I can't tell you often enough: Don't worry too much", Ginny said all of the sudden.

At this moment, Pansy shrieked: "Bloody hell, look who's on the front page of the Daily Prophet!"

And so I did. The yellowed front page showed a large moving picture of Draco's skinny body next to mine standing under the tree at the lake, fortunately, our faces weren't visible. The picture showed Draco and me hugging tightly.

"Two students were caught at the lake hugging. We assume the boy as the one and only Draco Lucius Malfoy, who is going to marry the wonderful Astoria Greengrass in summer, but we couldn't identify the brown-haired girl yet", Pansy read out loud.

Maybe the people of the Daily Prophet couldn't, but everyone in the hall knew immediately that it was my brown hair from the back. My signature look. From all corners were students of every grade whispering, even Lavender whispered to Pavarti.

"There's nothing going on between you and him, hm?", Lavender raised her blonde eyebrow.
