My sleeping schedule had been so messed up by my lack of routine that I was able to talk to Nicky until the early hours of the morning. As it got later, our conversations became more spacey, the topics drifting far from what would be considered 'normal' by most. It was during those conversations when I really got to see the real Nicholas Latifi, and he got to see the real me. I found myself falling for him harder and faster than ever before. Just the mention of his name, or something as simple as a glimpse of his favourite colour, was enough to make my heart flutter. This was more than a crush, but I wouldn't quite say it's love yet.
My late nights meant that I wasn't waking up until about eleven o'clock most mornings. I was fully aware that it was a bad habit, but I wasn't willing to break it because of all the time I got to spend talking to Nicky. I also wasn't going to cut down on my time spent with Lando; I already felt bad enough for all the arguments we had the last week. He was really trying to make things right, so I was going to put in just as much effort. He's still my best friend, and I love him.
A loud knock on my bedroom door woke me up in alarm. I sat upright, breathing deeply with a hand placed over my thumping heart. My head was spinning with how quickly I sat up. The corner of my vision going black obscured my view of the door. Who could possibly think that waking me up was a good idea?
"Lyra!" Lando's voice called through the door, sounding disgustingly chirpy. I rubbed my head and groaned, glancing to the clock. The time read quarter past ten - way too early. "You awake?"
"Piss off!" I shouted back, slamming my head back down onto the pillow. I grabbed the pillow from the space beside me and placed it over my head to drown out any of the mumbling he was doing. My guess was that he was on the phone to Jon; he usually is early morning to discuss workouts.
He knocked his knuckle against the door a few more times. "Lyra!"
"Oh my God, what?" I didn't really want to get out of bed because of how warm I was under the covers. I rarely wore anything other than a large t-shirt and underwear to bed so this wasn't the attire I wanted Lando to be seeing me in so soon after the incident.
His knocking continued, so I reluctantly peeled the quilt from my legs and climbed out of bed. My t-shirt, which happened to be one of Nicky's from when he spent the night, had ridden up. With the tips of my fingers, I tugged it down so that I was properly covered. The carpet felt nice underneath my bare toes as I stretched my arms above my head and curled them.
Finally, I pulled down my door handle, causing the knocking to finally stop. I glared at Lando as he stood there with his fist raised, ready to knock again. He sheepishly smiled before returning it to his side. "Well, someone looks happy this morning."
"Fuck you," I scowled. "You know I hate being woken up."
"Ly, it's not exactly early," he pointed out, a smile of amusement forming on his face. "And besides, I got you a present!" From behind his back, Lando presented me with a tall, take-away cup from the local coffee place.
I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply in annoyance. "You woke me up to tell me you bought me a drink?"
"I didn't buy the drink," Lando stepped back and gestured to the door of the gaming room, "he did."
To my surprise, none other than my boyfriend jumped out from behind the door. He had a wide grin on his face as he opened out his arms. "Surprise!" Nicky cheered. I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing and couldn't find the words to respond immediately. I don't know if it was just my brain being it's usual slow self, or if the fact that I had just woken up. My mouth was opening and closing like a fish however I was still grinning though it.
