All of Lyra's years dancing had been leading up to this moment. She had one shot to prove to the scouts of the English National Ballet School that they should choose her to join their three year program. So far, she had made it past the initial auditions to the call-backs, where the school were to decide the successful thirty dancers who will start their first year. It was tough; the competition was the highest Lyra had ever encountered. She had been preparing for this moment for so long. Her pointe work was the main focus because she knew they were expecting her to show it off.
The Norris family decided to join the Evans' in supporting Lyra for her final audition. Maria and Tobias had split, however remained in the same house for the sake of raising their children together. It could be pretty awkward at times, but Lyra always knew she and Rosie had a second home they could go to whenever they wanted to. The Evans children were as much accepted into the Norris household as the actual children were. Cisca and Adam would do anything for the two girls who completed the family.
Lyra had only anticipated another round of practice for her final audition so it was a shock when she learned that she'd be having to learn a piece and perform it. The studio where the preliminary auditions were held experienced damage during a storm, meaning the final audition was on a stage in a theatre. It was completely out of her comfort zone.
Unfortunately, Lyra's best friend wouldn't be able to make it, and therefore neither would his father. Lando was currently taking part in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand. He was half the world away from his best friend. Despite this, they were both supportive of each other's respective careers. Lyra wanted Lando to be there more than anything, and even had a little cry in her room because of how much she missed him, but she could never come between him and motorsport. His trip to New Zealand was the furthest they've ever been away from each other and the longest. It was a weird experience for the best friends.
For two hours, Lyra listened to her instructor, following everything they asked for - nothing more, nothing less. She couldn't help but notice some of the other kids give more than asked, but in her opinion it just made them look like they couldn't count to two. If she keeps her lines clean and balance central, she couldn't see any reason to deducted points. The nod of approval that Lyra received from the director of dance, Viviana Durante, gave her reassurance. She didn't want to portray any nerves in her dancing because that's when she starts to make mistakes.
The time finally came for the dancers to give their performance to the judges and audience members consisting of the dancers' families. During practice, guests had been given full access to the facilities so that they didn't get bored. Both Maria and Tobias were anxious for their daughter, knowing that if unsuccessful in her audition, Lyra would be crushed. This had been her dream school since she was a little girl, and she had huge ambitions that would be easier to achieve if she gets into the school. So much had been sacrificed for Lyra's dreams so she didn't want to disappoint.
Dancers with an odd number on their chests were called to the stage first, with the first performance due to start five minutes after the last dancer number was called. Lyra looked down to her chest, conflicting emotions washing over her when she read the upside-down four. Whilst she was relived she didn't have to go up first, she was worried that the first group will just outshine her. An even chatter filled the room as the first round of dancers moved to prepare, creating a buzz of excitement. The large stage easily accommodated the fifteen female dancers that made up the odd half. The dance choreographed allowed for every dancer to have a moment in the spot light so that everyone's talents could be evenly judged, with the boys doing their piece afterwards.
