The shackles were removed and Loki led me out of the audience chamber in a hurry, hand on the small of my back. Shivers travelled down my spine as we walked out. My head was still reeling from whatever I had just heard in there from Odin and Frigga. Once the doors were shut, Loki very nearly shoved me into a wall. Anger and disbelief raged on his features, green eyes blazing into mine. "What-why would you say that, Cassandra?!" he demanded. I glared right back. "I really don't see why you're so upset right now," I said, trying to catch my breath. "I just got you released from the dungeons because of what I said there! Some of which were very hard to say out loud, Loki." He shook his head in disbelief again, still angry. His hands were on my shoulders, holding me in place.
"Be that as it may, you are now in danger of being imprisoned yourself. For decades."
I scoffed at him. "Yeah, so? It won't come to that, I hope." His expression softened a bit, grip lessening. "What makes you think I won't lose my temper?" He said softly, with a hint of anger still evident in his voice. I looked down at the floor, then back up at him. Our eyes met and I felt my heart give a weird leap. "Because I believe in you, Loki," I said flatly. "If I didn't believe in you, I wouldn't have come here in the first place. I'd be back on Earth, seeing my family and safe." That got his attention. Loki's eyes widened, and he let me go slowly. We walked down the hallway at a leisurely pace. "You are so frustrating, Cassandra..." I heard him mumble loudly. I coughed, throwing my hands up in my own frustration.
What was his deal?!
I had just spilled my guts in that room about shit I had rather kept buried, just for him! And this was how he repaid me? By getting flipping angry and walking away? I shook my head in my own disbelief, leaning against the wall with a leg propped on the wall. "Too bad you didn't figure this all out earlier," I said smoothly, my own anger and sadness showing through my calm facade.
"You would have spared yourself all this regret."
Loki stopped dead in his tracks.
Half turning to look back at me. "Regret? Regret what?" I didn't even look up at him. "For bringing me here, to Asgard, as your defence... Hell, maybe even for befriending me in the first place." I ignored the hurt I saw flash across his face, lost in my own bitterness that was setting in. He was astonished. "You... believe I regret... bringing you to see my home?"
"I know you do, Loki."
He turned but stayed rooted in his spot there in the hall. "You don't know anything about how I think about you," Loki said with quiet anger. Yeah, he was sooo mad at me. I meant to scoff, flip my hair and walk dramatically away around the corner without looking back. But of course, that's the moment when my heel decided to break and cause me to fall flat on my face as I rounded the corner. Next thing I knew, he was there beside me helping me up. "Thank you," I spoke cooly as I bent down to pick up my shoe. The heel lay forgotten on the golden marble flooring.
"Your welcome." We began a slow, silent walk back towards our bedrooms, me embarrassingly in bare feet. Oh well, at least the skirt of the dress I was wearing covered my feet so it wasn't too noticeable. Loki glanced at me every so often, looking like he was debating with himself over something. I didn't care much at the moment anyway. I was still kinda angry at him for being angry at me, no matter how undeserved it was. A smirk creeped its way onto his face, looking at me with humor evident.
"So, how about we play a game?"
I deadpanned to myself. "Are you serious right now?" I looked at him in confusion. "Are you trying to be funny?" He would realize I could stay angry at him for longer than five minutes. I hoped...
