It's nearly sunset and Katara hasn't returned from going to find Aang about 2 hours ago. I'm starting to get worried that they got into some sort of trouble because not even 10 minutes ago a flare was shot into the sky. I was going to go out looking for them but after the flare was shot into the air, Sokka has been very stern about me staying in the village. He knows that I can take care of myself just fine but that doesn't stop him from being an overprotective brother, even though I'm 5 minutes older than him. Currently Sokka and I stand at the edge of the village with our grandmother and some of the villagers, waiting for Aang and katara to come back. I let out a small sigh of relief when I see Aang and Katara in the distance making their way back. "Yay! Aang's back!" a girl cheers as the children start running toward them. The children gather around Aang, just as Sokka steps toward him and Katara angrily. "I knew it! You signaled the Fire Navy with that flare!" he says pointing at Aang. "You're leading them straight to us, aren't you?" he asks. "Aang didn't do anything. It was an accident." Katara defends as she stops right in front of Sokka with Aang and the children. "Yeh, we were on the ship and there was this booby trap and well..." he hesitates by putting his hand on the back of his head in embarrassment. "...we "boobied" right into it." he continues.
At that answer, I see gran gran shake her head. "Katara, you shouldn't have gone on that ship. Now we could all be in danger!" she says. "Don't blame Katara!" Aang exclaims. "I brought her there." he states before looking downcast. "It's my fault." he continues softly. "Aha! The traitor confesses!" Sokka exclaims pointing at Aang. "Warriors, away from the enemy!" He commands the children, making the children walk away from Aang and back to their mothers. "The foreigner is banned from our village!" he continues.
"Sokka, you're making a mistake." Katara says angrily. "No! I'm keeping my promise to Dad. I'm protecting you and Mia from threats like him!" Sokka replies. "Aang is not our enemy!" Katara says angrily as she motions to Aang, "Don't you see? Aang's brought us something we haven't had in a long time. Fun." she continues. "Fun?" Sokka asks. "We can't fight firebenders with fun!" he continues. "You should try it sometime." Aang says with an earnest smile. "Get out of our village. Now!" Sokka says sternly. "Grandmother, please, don't let Sokka do this." Katara says to Gran Gran who stands next to me. "Katara, you knew going on that ship was forbidden. Sokka is right. I think it best if the airbender leaves." Gran Gran says to her. Katara then turns her head to me."Mia... please... don't let Sokka do this..." she begs.
As much as I would like to have Aang stay, it's not safe to keep him in the village anymore now that he took Katara to the Fire Navy ship. I look into her sad eyes for a second longer before looking away, ignoring her plea. "Fine! Then I'm banished too!" she exclaims, making me turn my head back to her in shock as she turns, taking Aang by the shoulder starting to walk toward Appa. "C'mon, Aang, let's go!" she says to Aang as she pulls him along behind her. "Where do you think you're going?" Sokka asks as he points at her. "To find a waterbender! Aang is taking me to the North Pole!" Katara replies as she continues to drag Aang by the wrist toward Appa. "I am?" Aang asks, confused. I then see his face brighten a second later. "Great!" he says excitedly. "Katara!" Sokka calls after her, making her stop in her tracks. "Would you really choose him over your tribe? Your own family?" Sokka asks.
As Sokka asks her this, I see Katara's shoulders slump down and I know that she's in doubt on which to choose. Aang comes up next to her a second later, obviously seeing the struggle that must be on her face. "Katara, I don't want to come between you and your family." he says to her before he walks over to Appa. "So, you're leaving the South Pole? This is goodbye?" Katara asks him softly, the sadness in her voice very evident. Aang turns back to her. "Thanks for penguin sledding with me." he says with a smile. "Where will you go?" Katara asks him. "Guess I'll go back home and look for the airbenders." Aang says as he puts a hand on Appa's head. "Wow, I haven't cleaned my room in a hundred years. Not looking forward to that." he continues before he uses his airbending to get onto Appa's head where he takes the reins.
