(Carter's POV)
Jimmy's face fell immediately. I felt guilty, the first thing I said to him was that we couldn't be together rather than thank you. I hugged him again."I'm sorry!" I cried. "Thank you! Thank you for saving me!"
"Come on, let's get you out of here," Jimmy said.
He led me through a small park that only had two swings, a slide, monkey bars, a teeter-totter, and a blue and white roundabout. We walked through a slim dirt path between trees that led us to a small dirt parking lot. The only car there was a white can with barely legible words on the side. Jimmy opened the door and gestured for me to go in first. I went in and sat on the small bench while Jimmy sat across from me. The walls of the van were covered in high-tech computers and machines I didn't recognize. The vehicle started moving and I looked to the drivers seat to find a tall man with black hair and blue eyes.
"Johnny Toast," Jimmy explained.
"Hi," I said awkwardly.
He nodded in response and took a drink from a flask.
"I'm sorry," I apologized. "About what I said earlier. It's just that Jessie died because we were together. He wanted us to stay away. It was almost like a last wish for him and I want to fulfill that wish."
"I understand," Jimmy said quietly. "Friends?"
"Friends," I agreed. "What happened to your face?"
I lightly touched the cut that went across his cheek.
"I got beat up by a tree," he mumbled.
"Trees can't beat people up," I countered.
He only shrugged in response. I could tell he was still upset despite his offer to be friends. I knew Jessie wouldn't want us to be friends either but this was the best I could do. Despite his being scary and insane something drew me towards him. I'm not sure what it was but I like to be around Jimmy.
I was about to tell him that when Johnny Toast cut me off. "We might have some company."
I was slightly taken aback by his British accent. Out the window I saw Anthony, Georgina, and Joey walking up to Anthony's house. Each of them kept eyeing the van. When I looked to Jimmy I saw that his eyes were now the color blue rather than red. He unlocked the door and started leading me up to my house.
"Carter!" I heard all three of them yell.
Joey, Anthony, and Georgina ran over and squeezed me into a hug. They let go and Anthony started questioning Ghost. Georgina was talking to Toast about me and Joey have me another hug.
"I missed you," he whispered.
"I want to go home," I said.
I haven't stopped crying ever since the blond man left me in the storage room alone. Joey started bringing me towards the house but I stopped him.
"I want to go back home," I repeated. "Back home to Texas."
"I can take you," Joey offered.
"No he can't," Ghost said.
"But I don't want to be here anymore!" I exclaimed. "I had to leave my happy life to move here where my whole family was killed! I don't have anyone left! The only people I'm really close to are all back in Texas!"
"You have me," Anthony said. "And Georgina and Johnny."
"And you-know-who," Ghost added.
"Who?" Georgina asked but Johnny didn't answer.
