CHAPTER EIGHT

My first day at work is so hectic .
I have to go through every file and master how everything is done around .
I have to know the heads in each department and what their work is.

At tea break , I'm already tired but at least I'm aware of most departments but the one I'm looking for is nowhere to be found.

I realize all the data recorded does not concide with the actual happenings. For example , while they send fishing boats to overfish both day and night, it is only recorded that fishing boats leave at six in the afternoon and comes back at six in the morning.

Of course anyone would have guessed that there was something fishy going on because the amount of fish being recorded is more than the one that should be fished even if you sent more boats.

Tge factory waste was recorded that it was always dumped in the factory's dumping site but the site was as clean as you can never relate it to a rubbish pit.

There were records of traps being set up on the shores surrounding the factory and any other opening but everyone knew that it was very rare for fish to wander off to the shores.

The Scott's had a way of clearing their tracks but I guess this time they forgot that someone might go through the records and find out that there were many loose ends.

So I decided to make them aware that I knew of their dealings.
Taking the office telephone, I dialed a number and waited. After four rings, it was received .
The owner of the factory was the old man that I had come to know was called Gabriel Scott.

" Gabriel speaking ," he said in a business like voice

"Mr Gabriel , I request for your presence in my office right now!" I said in a bored tone

"Are you insane? Just because I made you a managing director does not mean that you can order me around!" He snapped

How I loved making this old man on edge.
I could literally feel his rage as his veins popped up on his forehead yet he wasn't here.

"Uuhm.. you might want to answer some loop holes I found in the records alone because I will readily call for a press meeting with the board and you will answer there !" I said as calmly as I could

I didn't even know if the board of management knew about whatever was happening but I was just trying my luck out.

"What do you mean?" He asked

"I mean, I know of the things that happen in this factory behind the public eye so you better have a good explanation ,"

"I'm on my way now ," he sighed defeatedly

"Good old man!" I said sarcastically

"I knew you were bad news from the time I laid eyes on you," he whispered probably to himself

"What did you say?"

"Nothing ," he replied hastily

"I thought so," I said rolling my eyes before disconnecting the call.

In lesser minutes than I expected he was in my office fuming just as I expected .
"Wow, seems like you missed me old man. I wouldn't be surprised if you ran here without your walking stick.."  I laughed exaggerating the laughter to make it longer as he gritted his teeth and clenched his fists.

Before I knew what was happening , his fist connected with my work desk leaving a crack in it.

I never expected such strength from an old man like him so obviously I was surprised .
"Go direct to the point kid, you don't know what I can do . I am running out of patience with you so you better stay on your best behavior from now on !"

I must admit that he scared me a little bit because I didn't know to what extent he could go when he was really mad and I didn't plan on finding out any time soon.

Presenting the incriminating records, I see him shocked.
"Mind to explain?" I asked calmly

"Explain what?" He said confidently and for a second there I thought I was wrong because he didn't seem to be guilty of anything.

"Well for starters ,could you explain why the amount of fish being recorded daily does not match with the way run on the ground . Even if you sent double fishing boats they wouldn't bring that amount !" I asked

"I call it God's grace and good luck," he replied arrogantly

I move aside that file and open the next one gauging his reaction but he was doing a good job hiding his expression

"Okay, if you say so. If that's the case the care to explain where you dump your waste because I was at the dumpster and nothing was there, not even a scratch of wastes!" I was almost raising my voice because I knew where the wastes were being dumped.

"We found a new dumpster," he replied with a bored look

"And you never bothered to change the records because here they say even today the waste was dumped in the intended dumpster

"The recording department's error not mine!"

Okay he was acting so cool , like whatever I was saying was pure bullshit.

"Anything else that you need an answer to?" He continued

"Sure . Why are there traps near the shores and any openings from the sea to land?"

This caught him unaware and I watched with a satisfied face as he blinked rapidly probably coming up with another vague reason.

"To catch fish that wander this far duh , isn't it that obvious?"

"Mr Gabriel both you and I know that no fish can wander this far and stay alive because the oxygen levels decreases next to the shores. What are you hiding ?"

"What are you talking aboutkid?"

"You know exactly what I am talking about so don't give me that look,"

"Ever heard of not sticking your nose into other people's businesses? I think you should try it out. And don't think about telling anyone because you won't live to see another day!" He threatened walking away towards the door

"Really ? I don't think so because I have someone who will be interested in what I just found out and he's way stronger than you,"

He turned around his mouth wide open in shock.
"Who sent you? How much does he pay you so that I can pay double ?"
