CHAPTER THIRTY THREE

All of them looked at me with disbelief in their eyes.

"We just found you !" Gabriel said blankly doing a good job at hiding his emotions from me

"I don't see what is keeping me here anymore. My mission is done, and I feel like I need to go back to my people. " I replied carefully

"What about us? You just want us to let you go and forget that you were a part of us right ?" Travis questioned clenching his jaw

"I....

I don't get to finish my sentence before a hard slap lands on my face.

I'm too shocked as I lift my head to see the person who had slapped me.

It's like the others are mirroring the same expression on my face because nobody reacts quickly enough

"You want to leave me? Again? You know what, I'm so done with you! Do whatever pleases you Ella . I can't believe you can be so selfish!" Stevie spat at me her eyes turning red as hot trails down her face .

She turned away wiping them angrily before looking at me one more time and stomped out of the room.

I was too defeated to say anything. Her words hit me so hard I blinked slowly turning my head away as Smith ran after her.

Gabriel looked at me taking in my appearance as if he was mastering before sighing heavily.

"Will you come back some day? Or this is the end ?" He asked his voice breaking at the end no matter how hard he tried keeping his face stoic.

"I don't know. I can't promise anything except finding out what happened to your wife. " I replied carefully selecting my words .

"I guess this is it then. But may I ask why do you want to leave today night? You can leave after you are properly healed you know."

Maybe he deserved a little honestly so I told him what had been disturbing me for a while now
"My parents promised to keep in touch with me but after a call that sounded so distressed I've never heard from them. My best friend also left me with tears in her eyes and I've also never heard from her. And I've been having this weird feeling that something is not right back at home so I think it's time I found out what happened while I was away."

He nodded his head as if figuring out what I had just told him
"I understand child. Do what must be done . I am going to leave the both of you to talk."
He looked between Travis and I before exiting as well.

"I am coming with you !" He blurted out once his father was out of hearing distance

"The hell you ain't !" I snapped at him

He wouldn't just be endangering himself but also the future of the mermaid clan.

"And why not if I may ask Ella ? That fucking sea swallowed my mother and I'm not going to sit here and let it swallow the woman I love again ! Never !" His voice was final like he had thought about this before and no one was going to talk him out of it.

Perhaps I needed to tell him the significance of his green tail. But maybe the time was too early and he wouldn't believe me anyway

"And I'm not going to risk the future of my clan by allowing you to follow me. Look that has been my home from childhood so it's not going to swallow .e okay ?" I tried to reason with him on this but he was having none of it

"So was it to her... It was her home since childhood but it still swallowed her. I'm not risking you Ella, I can't loose you please . Just let me go with you." He pleaded his voice laced with emotions and for a moment there, I almost gave in to him.

"I'm sorry but I can't. Maybe I will come over here when I'm settled at home so that we can see how we can solve these feelings we have for each h other but I can't and I won't allow you to come with me. "

"Fine ." He said calmly but his eyes held a glint that disappeared so fast I thought I had imagined it.

"Just like that ?" I questioned not believing that he could just accept that easily.

"It's like you don't want me to come with you and I won't convince you so just let it be. But I would prefer if you talked to Stevie first before you leave. You know that she loves you right?."

I just nodded in response before standing to give him a hug
"I'll just talk to Stevie before coming to spend the remaining time with you okay ?"

"Sure."

Stevie was reluctant to talk to me but after explaining to her just situation , she understood or I thought she did and we made small jokes with her.
"I will miss you so much Ella. Promise to come back ,"

"I promise Stevie. I'll come see you when everything happens to be fine."

Smith walked in on us and thanked me for setting him free but I had to remind him that he was the one who killed Davis Martins and set himself free from  him and not me.

The rest of the day was spent with Travis telling me about his childhood as I laughed at the funny pranks he pulled on his mother and father.
"I miss her you know , I wonder where she is right now. Is she dead? Or is she still alive somewhere? "

"Only time will tell Travis .. only time will ."

As they stood on the shore looking at me as I walked deep and deep in to the water, I could help but let a few pearls drop. Feeling like I was leaving a part of me behind but I held on that wide smile to assure them that I was glad.

"Goodbye everyone." I whispered before plunging into the water as my body rearranged itself and soon my golden tail was visible .

I swam for some time heading home but just as I was close to the kingdom's boundary, I felt a splash and when I looked back, I couldn't believe it.

The stupid buy had followed me..
"What's with the face Daniella? Didn't think I would just let you go that easily now did you?"

I closed my eyes to keep myself from screaming at him before saying
"You don't know the kind of ahyt you just landed yourself into buddy !"
