CHAPTER TWELVE

I looked at him disbelief written all over my face.

That was a shocker!

My heart beat increased as I looked at him, realizing how right I was when I noted that his beauty was not human.

"Why are you looking at me like that ?" He asked smiling before breaking into fits of laughter
"You should have seen your face Ella . I was just kidding okay, don't take me serious after all they are just mythical creatures." He finished in a mocking voice as he drove on.

I blew out a breath that I didn't realize I was holding before turning to him

"Why did you choose to only say a merman ? Why not a vampire or a centaur or a werewolf?  "
Something told me that he was lieing to me like he was hiding something huge

"That was the first one that came to my mind. Besides I live beside the sea so it's only natural for me to have imaginations of those beautiful creatures. "

"Okay."

He drove home silently after that and came to open my door for me like a perfect gentleman when we arrived.

"I guess I will see you tomorrow at school ?" He asked as I made to walk away

"Maybe... Can I ask you something?"

"Sure,"

"Where did the idea of proposing a marriage between us come from?" I asked

"It was from my father . He had hinted about it but I did not pay attention. Furthermore I came to tell the girl that I could never marry her and found it was you and I could not say no ."

"What does that mean ? Why couldn't you say no?"

"I could explain it to you but I can't because you would not understand . You need to stay safe and by me telling you whatever secret I'm hiding , you will not be safe anymore and that applies to me too."

"Whatever , just stay away from me please ."

Travis laughed
"How am I supposed to stay away when technically you are working for me Ella ?"

"I don't know, just find a way okay."

Elena was waiting on the couch
"I told you not to wait for me, I would take long."

"I had to know how your dinner went Ella ."

"I don't want to talk about it please . Let me just sleep we will talk tomorrow okay?"

"Sure , goodnight then ."

"Goodnight too Elena." I said as I walked upstairs

But I was not done yet. I wanted to find out if what Travis had told me was true and he was just trying to hide it because to to him I would not believe him.

When he told me I was shocked because no one in our clan had ever stepped foot outside our kingdom except for the woman who left and came back dead so who was he if he was telling the truth.

I could just walk through the door and leave but Elena had started snooping around my personal life lately and I didn't want her to start asking questions so I opted to sneak out.

I had an emergency exit known only by me although it was an underground tunnel.

I quickly changed my dress to my nerdy clothes with an oversized hoodie and ankle boots before making my exit.

At the end of the tunnel was a beautiful bike that was waiting for me.
I made a mental note to thank whoever designed this house because at times like this I could sneak out like I wished and no one would know .

The bike made a little noise as I reversed it and headed to the sea. I had to let myself loose tonight until it was Dawn and I knew the exact place that had no traps.

The cold air blew my hair making it to fly all over the place until I had to stop and tie it into a ponytail .
My mind was only set on two things.... Swimming and splashing water all over

Though I still had a few days before meeting Anita , I could not control the thirst I had for water.

I parked the bike at a well hidden place such that it was difficult to tell if anything was there before removing my clothes and walking towards the open shore.

The cold sand under my feet felt heavenly, the smell of sea water made me smile so wide as I inhaled deeply over and over again.

I really missed home and the freedom that came with it.

What if I decided to go back home even for a short while and then come back to finish my mission? I asked myself before giving an answer
"You already broke two rules, don't make it a routine now that you even want to go home.

I sighed at my divided thoughts as I felt my feet touch the cold water.
I walked deeper until the water was covering half of my body before diving and my body did not need to be told to change.

I felt peace under the water, swimming from one corner to the other but I was careful not to stray further from the shore even though I was some meters deep and away from the shore .

I avoided splashing in case I attracted an enemy or a human out fishing.
I would have been curled up in my chamber right now if I were home ... I started thinking again before I realized I was sinking due to lack of concentration.

Gasping for air as I plunged out of the water, I settled in before swimming to the shore and heading to my bike .

Halfway through I noticed the mansion that was near the sea. When I came it was dark I didn't recognize it but now the lights were on and I could hear the door creaking.

I then saw a shadow get out of the house headed for my direction .

I walked stealthily and hid behind a rock

As the shadow came closer, I recognized the person as Travis who looked worked up.

He was naked but that was not my concern right now.

I watched him look around for anything or anyone before jumping into the water and transforming into a merman right in front of me.

I wanted to run because I did not know which side he belonged to but it's like my legs were glued at that point and the only thing that came out of my mouth was a loud gasp before a shrill voice snapped me out of my trance.

"TRAVISS..."

And I realized that voice belonged to me.
