CHAPTER FOURTEEN

I make sure to avoid Travis until my classes are over.

As I make to go to my car, I realize that something is rather odd.
The car handle has oil on it and it is loose.
The tires are intact but I can see that they are starting to flatten.

And then it hits me that someone has tampered with my car.
For what purpose ? I don't know
My mind drifts to Stevie and Travis . Those two are the only people who can do this . Stevie would want me dead so that she can have Travis while Travis would want me dead so that his secret does not get leaked .

Before I could think of calling anyone, my hand was yanked and I landed on a hard chest.
My mind went hazy as I gazed into the familiar blue eyes.
He bent down gazing in my eyes , brushing my lips with his and my knees became weak. If I wasn't leaning on him I would have fallen down by now.
He was teasing me, his hot breath on my face gave me goosebumps as I prayed for him to kiss me.

Just as he made to lock my lips with his, his phone rang.
This made us jump apart but he still held on to my hand as he whispered into the phone.

What are you trying to do Ella ? Even if he is a mermaid it does not mean you can fall in love with him because you don't know which side he is on....
My mind scolded me and I felt guilty . I did not plan to break the two remaining rules .

"We are going home, " Travis said after hanging up

"Excuse me?"

"You heard me Ella ."

"You have no right to tell me where to go at any particular time. You are not my mum or my dad so excuse me but I am not going anywhere with you."

I made to remove my hand from his grasp but he held on tighter than before .
"I wasn't asking Ella . My dad is waiting , we have a lot to talk about . And oh! I saw one of Stevie's minions next to your car. I suggest you call your mechanic so that he can find out what is wrong . I don't trust them."

I just nodded as he walked me to his car, opening the door for me and waited until I had buckled up my seatbelt before going around to get in.
"What do you have in store for me Travis ?" I attempted to ask in case he would answer

" Something to make you understand why we do what we do and to also explain to you what you saw today morning in the sea."

"But I don't need an explanation . You don't owe me an explanation Danny .."

"Travis , just call me Travis ."

"What? You allow Stevie to call you Danny but you can't allow me?"

"Just call me Travis . What were you saying ?"

"What I am saying is you and your dad don't owe me an explanation . All you have to do is meet my demands and I will disappear from your lives. I won't bother you again and you won't have to explain anything to me. I will assume I never saw you change today morning. Please.."

"We can't do that Ella. It's the reason why I am going to explain to you so please just try not to get on my dad's nerves and listen to him ."

"I can't say I don't like annoying him but I will be on my best behavior today ."

"Okay."

Gabriel Scott was waiting for us outside the door, his hands in his pockets.

"Glad that you came Ella." He said genuinely happy to see me

"I'm doing good too old man." I said before Travis cleared his throat .

"Can we get in dad ?"

"Sure. Why not? Forgive my manners. Come on in,"
He moved aside to allow us get in as he came lastly

"What would you like to have Ella ?" Gabriel asked

"Passion juice would do just fine."

In a minute Arnold brought me juice and exited . He looked tensed and avoided looking at me .
This brought chills to me. It was like a red sign but I ignored it.
Travis was shifting uncomfortably in his seat while Gabriel was tapping on the table his eyes distant like he was reminiscing about something

"Okay, you are scaring me. What is it?"

Travis looked at his dad who nodded.
"We are going to tell you a story ." I nodded

"There was a woman who came from the sea . Lost and hungry, she came across a man. That man helped her. He taught her the human ways, the human language until she became accustomed to all of them . They later fell in love and got married , had a son and thought it was their happily ever after. But after some time, she started changing. She would cry into the nights begging someone not to take her, she would have terrible night mares related on someone taking her away. And then one day, some people who were also from sea came for her. She begged but they dragged her away to seafor good. Her husband and son have been looking for her for so many years. Her son swam into the sea and got lost without running into her people so they decided to use other illegal ways."

I was mesmerized by what I had just heard but I still didn't get the connection
"So how is that connected to your factory?"

"Because my father is that woman's husband and I am her son !"

What?
"Hell no!" I found myself shouting

She better not be the woman father said was killed by the man that knew who she really was.
But that story was very similar because father said that the owner of the factory was the same man, so between them who was telling me the truth ?

Whatever was going on I was planning to find out very soon
