There was a flash.
Azure bolted up. She turned her head in both directions, trying to see what caused the flash.
She was afraid it would rain. She hated rain because it always brought thunderstorms and lightning. Thunderstorms always kept her from sleeping.
She nudged Armin, who barely stirred, murmuring a small "what?".
"Armin, did you see that light?" She asked. Armin shook his head and rolled onto his side, facing away from Azure. She sighed before turning her head towards the slightly open door. A man walked into the area with an unconscious Eren in his arms. Azure stood and rushed over to him, startling the man.
"Is Eren okay, sir?" She whispered. The man gave her an odd look, then nodded. She watched in silence as he set Eren down beside Mikasa. The man turned to leave.
"Wait!" Azure squeaked, latching onto the man's arms. "Is it raining, sir?"
The man opened his mouth to speak then closed it, thinking over his words. "It's not. You should get some sleep, Azure."
Azure furrowed her brows. She had no idea who this man was, yet he knew her name. But it was too late to ask anymore questions since he was already gone, and she was the only one awake.
Azure tip-toed back to her spot beside Armin and laid down onto her back. She sighed, closing her eyes and slowly drifting off to sleep. She'd ask her father in the morning.

A year had passed. Azure's father had restarted his bakery and made sure to feed Armin, Eren, Azure, and Mikasa.
The government had planned to reclaim Wall Maria. They sent twenty percent of the survivors of the fall of Shiganshina into Wall Maria in an attempt to take back the wall. The majority died, with Armin's grandfather and parents among the fallen. Armin thought it was a hoax, and those people were sentenced to death so more resources could be spread around. Of course, this was only speculation. There was no guarantee that it was a hoax, but there was no other option left.
Dr. Jaeger was nowhere to be seen. Eren and Mikasa hadn't seen him since he left. Azure reassured him that maybe he was still on his trip and they'd see him sometime soon. Of course, this wasn't believable. Dr. Jaeger left over a year ago. Eren just decided his father abandoned him or had died, and nobody could convince him otherwise. Azure was starting to believe it. After all, it was suddenly the year 847. The four were twelve. They were planning on entering the Trainee Corps.
And Grisha Jaeger was nowhere to be seen after two years of speculation.
Mr. Violez looked at the four preteens standing in front of him; exhaustion etched onto their features. He practically raised these kids himself, and now they were all on their way to the military.
"Remember everyone - especially you, Eren - that it's okay to quit. You can come back here and work with me at any time. I won't be disappointed in you," He said. Eren shook his head.
"Thank you, Mr. Violez, but we don't plan on quitting anytime soon."
Azure's father sighed. The ghost of a smile appearing on his face. "Ah, well. At least I tried."
A bell sounded, notifying the soldiers that it was time to say goodbye to their families.
"That's our cue, Papa," Azure sighed. She wrapped her arms around her father. Armin followed after her, with Eren and then Mikasa. Mr. Violez shed a tear as he held the four for the last time until their graduation. "Stay safe. Stick together. Don't get in trouble," he whispered, raising his eyebrow in Eren's direction, who blushed in embarrassment in response.
