I used to hate Christmas and New year. Although it was a festive season it was usually the time my mom and dad fought a lot. For years our new year's eve was ruined by some stupid argument our parents had.
After 5 years, I was ready to bring back Christmas spirit to our house. I decorated my room with a bunch of Christmas lights, I decorated the living room. Even Jack helped me. And he NEVER helps.
I couldn't wait for Tommy to come back. He texted me a couple of times just to assure me he's coming since he bailed the last time.
As I was hanging up the last ornament on the tree the bell rang. Since we all knew it was Tommy Jack ran to the door and opened them. We all went after him. To all of our surprises he had brought someone.
»Mmm, mom, George, April, Jack meet Sara. My girlfriend.« he looked kind of nervous and so did she.
She looked nice. She was dressed casually, slightly shorter than my brother yet still taller than me. She had big brown eyes and short black hair. She was wearing glasses that were slowly sliding of her nose. She's cute.
Everyone stood there in shock. I reached between mom and George to greet Sara. I hugged her and offered her to come in. Everyone followed my example and we all headed to the kitchen
I pulled Tommy and I waited for everyone to get in before I started talking.
»Why didn't you say anything?« You?!« I asked him with a big smile and punched him in the shoulder.
»Well I didn't know how you'd react. But I can see you like her.« he smiled while rubbing his shoulder.
»Yeah she seems nice.« I cut right to the point:« There's something I need to tell you.« but before I could finish Jack interrupted me.
»We'll talk later. Okay?«
»Yeah, sure.« I was a little disappointed.
We made our way into the kitchen. I could see mom talking with Sara, George playing with Jack. There was smooth christmas music coming from the radio. this will be a perfect evening.
After dinner mom and George went to their bedroom to take a nap. Sara fell asleep with Jack in her lap on the couch.
Tommy and I decided to go for a walk since we needed to talk and we've eaten more that a person should in one night.
»You seemed pretty quiet during dinner.« he started. »What did you want to tell me?«
»Oh you know the usual. School's boring, I miss you and I miss Patty.« I wasn't so sure I should tell him. I didn't want to ruin the perfect night that we were having.
»You know I know there is more than just that.« He seemed worried, and I could see the wrinkle he got between his eyes when he gets worried.
He was right. I took a deep breath and said: »I'm bi and I have a crush on my best friend.«
He stopped. He looked at me whammied »On Patty?«
»Oh, no no.« Damn it I should have been clearer. »On Val. You remember when I told you about everything... Our cuddling and the heart necklace.«
»Well that makes more sense. You know I love you no matter who you love. But I always thought you'd be telling me she confessed her crush on you or something. Not the other way around.« he started walking.
I was standing not being able to move.. I couldn't believe what I heard.«Did you just say .... She. Confessed. Her crush on me????«
In that moment he knew he screwed up. »Holy shit. I wasn't supposed to tell you that. Shit. And no. She didn't say that... Not exactly like that.« he walked around and put his hands behind his head. He was pacing to and fro and I stood still.
