When I woke up Julian wasn't there. I know he likes to get up early so i got up and went to the kitchen. When I arrived Barry and Julian were already talking, so I decided to find Patty.
I found her upstairs in her room. I decided to wake her up since we had to go in an hour and a half and she usually needed a lot of time to get ready.
»Hey sleepy head. We're all up and we don't even live here!«
»Yeah, I'm coming.« she mumbled.
Since I knew she wasn't coming down anytime soon I jumped on the bed. »C'mon it's your birthday! And you've already slept through almost half of it.«
She groaned and covered her head with the duvet.
»Oh hell no« I said. I dragged her out of bed and in an hour we were ready.
When we went downstairs, they were in the same position as I left them. It was 12.00 so we had to go.
We decided to take Julian's and Patty's car, with me and Julian in his and Patty and Barry in her car.
We had about half an hour drive before us to Papi's.
As we parked the cars, I started feeling nostalgic.I haven't been here in forever. I think the last time I was here might have even been with dad. Fuck I didn't want to think about him right now.
During the lunch I could see that Barry and Patty were getting friendly. It was funny seeing always around the guys Patty and shy Barry hitting it off, but hey I'm happy for her. He's a decent guy.
After we ate the finger licking food, we decided to have some coffee in the nearby cafe. We were enjoying the rays of sunshine of the early spring when suddenly I saw someone familiar come from across the street. I was trying to discern the figure and when I did I looked at Patty.
She was looking back at me with concern. Why? Because it was my father.
I really wished I wouldn't run into him here. But since here is where he spends most of his time I wasn't surprised to see him.
As always he came to me and greeted like everything was fine.
»Hey, April! I wasn't expecting to see you here.« I could hear the fake excitement in his voice, acting fine, like everything is okay with us. »Hey Patty! And who are these two boys?«
I answered in a cold voice: »Dad, this are Julian and Barry our Friends.«
Julian seemed shocked. I never talk about my dad. All the time we talked, he asked but I wasn't ready to talk about him yet.
»Hey, I'm Julian« He offered my dad a hand.
It was weird him being here. Seeing him.
»I haven't seen you since Christmas. What are you up to? Where are you going to college?«
He started talking about himself while all of us just stood there nodding to whatever, whenever he looked at us. I looked at Patty for some sort of help but she just seemed distracted by I don't know what.
While I was thinking he was still rambling on. Fuck how much I don't care about this.
»Dad, can you shut up?«
He was dumbfounded for a second. I was for even saying anything but I had enough. I have to say something. I don't want to go on like this anymore.
»How dare you? Disrespect me like that!« he started talking and moving towards me.
At my surprise that didn't scare me.
»How dare I? Disrespect you? How about all the times you disrespected me? All those times. I thought you were my father. Fathers are supposed to protect their daughters not harass them. And I wouldn't care if it were something minor, but calling me those names, sending that kind of messages... To your own daughter! And to Patty!? How did you even... » I saw he was surprised to hear that fact. That gave me an incentive.
