Chapter 14

The first time I met Kylee was when we were both sophomores. I remember the day crystal clear.

I had been finishing my math homework which was due that day, and had my head down, sitting at the very back.

Everyone else was chatting with there friends about their weekends, while here I was, writing down yesterday's date on my homework to make it look like I had done it beforehand.

As I was writing down a random number for a question I couldn't figure out, I heard the class fall silent.

I sped up my pace, the teacher would be coming around any minute to collect the homework.

I was on the last page, when I noticed no one was talking.

I had looked up to see everyone was looking at me.

"What?" I had said slowly.

The who,e class snickered, making me even more confused.

The teacher sighed and turned to a girl standing at the front of the class, who I had never seen before. I hadn't even noticed her before.

She was dressed like some delinquent, and was looking around, trying to act bored, but I could see through her acting skills. She looked nervous.

"My apologies Miss Evans. Miss Sheldon will be your new desk partner. Please, make yourself comfortable." The teacher gestured down the path leading to the very back.

After the girl had sat, I had started asking her questions and talking to her, since I was trying to make her feel welcome.

I had learnt that her name was Kylee, and she had moved here from Pittsburg a few days ago. She hadn't said why, she hadn't really talked about herself much. But I respected that and from then on, we had become close friends. She never talked about herself but was still a fun person to be around.

Now, lets snap back to reality.

I was sitting in the front seat of my car, which was parked a few blocks away from Kylee's house.

I had already seen Alex, and he had apologized repeatedly.

He said he had wanted to tell me, but Kylee had convinced him that it'd be too weird for me to bare.

I had forgiven him, seeing it was mostly Kylee's fault, and we had hugged it out.

I was so glad that I hadn't lost my best friend.

"You sure you don't want me to come?" Tyler asked.

I turned to my left and smiled.

"I gotta do this alone. Plus, I'm pretty sure you don't want to be involved in all this drama." I rolled my eyes.

He chuckled. "You're right. Well good luck. Call me when you need me to pick you up." Tyler said.

I nodded and took a deep breath.

Then I stepped out of the car and started walking towards Kylee's house.

I rounded the corner, and froze in my tracks.

What the hell were my parents doing here?

I glared at the grey SUV parked outside Kylee's house.

What if they were torturing Kylee? They might be threatening her or blackmailing her, I thought.

I noticed a man was jogging with his dog and slowed down as he came near me, and gave me a weird look.

What's his problem...
