"Mom." Danny shouted, his voice ringing in my ears and making me squint my eyes.

"Hush." I put the controller on the table beside me and jumped on him.

"What is it?" Our ever so subtle mother shouted back from the kitchen.

I put a hand over my brother's mouth and muffled his reply. He struggled against my hold on him but couldn't get out of it.

"What's going o-" Mom stopped mid sentence as she entered the living room and saw our position. I looked at her to find her cool gaze set on me, I blinked.

Once...

Twice...

And scrambled off my brother as her low degree of coolness rose a few notches to show in her eyes.

Daniel hurriedly got up and ran to mom. His tiny arms wrapped around her thin waist, his face burying itself into her stomach. He mumbled, "Momma, Cecy is cheating in the game!"

My mouth opened at his lie to form an O.

"No, I'm not." I scoffed. It was Thursday afternoon and after getting back from school we were playing on our newly bought playstation 4. It was something Danny had wanted to buy and when Dad finally bought it, Danny thought he had a right over it since it was his idea to get one.

We were playing a game called Gran Turismo and I was beating him in the 2 player battle. Not surprisingly he was a sore loser, so when he saw that I was about to win he snatched the controller out of my hand.

Next game, I did the same. That's when he shouted for mom.

Asstronaut!

"Mom, I promise he did it first!"

"Ella," she dragged out "He's your little brother."

"That's what you always say!" I rolled my eyes and turned back to the screen in front of me.

"Hey! Roll your eyes at someone else, Parker." She threatened and proceeded to order me "And play with your brother."

No matter how old I got, the way she said Parker always got me to shut up. So I did.

Danny walked back to take his place next to me, his pout changing itself into a smirk. He mockingly wiped his eye and flicked the non-existent tear at me.

"You're dead, bro." I said out of clenched teeth as the game started.

His Jaguar with the speed of 6.2 would never outrun my Dodge of 10.0. He did have the head start since he was Player 1 which meant when the game started he tried to hold me back by pushing into my car but... I was proven right five minutes later as I crossed the black and white finish line with Danny's car still on lap 1 of 3.

"Ha!" I exclaimed, my hands up in the air. Danny smacked the controller on the floor and stomping his feet he left the living room without looking back. I was a bit competitive, so what?

Turning off the game I pulled out my phone to text Romeo and ask about the presentation since it was already Thursday and if I didn't count today then we only had two more days to prepare. Tomorrow I had to go to the ball and for that I needed half the afternoon to put on my makeup. I mean I never really liked makeup but whenever I put it on it had to be done professionally otherwise what was the point?

Realizing I didn't really have Romeo's number I texted David first.

Me:

Yo.
