Let's travel to places far into the sky
Where there's no one
Just you and I***
"Right so to add on to what Romeo said, blood cannot be diverted from a vein because it would further slow down which means it might not be able to return to the heart resulting in death."
It was Monday. I had shown up to school despite getting home at two in the morning because obviously I cared about my grades. Surprisingly, Romeo had too.
I didn't talk to him until I had to. And I only did so we could discuss the presentation which was going great so far despite what happened on the weekend.
"That's why blood is only diverted from arteries and not veins." Romeo concluded, earning a nod from Mr. Hugh.
"Good job, Miss Parker, Mr Gibson."
We took our usual seats. He was back to staring at the white wall, his back stiffly straight and hands folded on the table.
He had tried to talk to me in the morning but I didn't want to. I knew I would have to face it sooner or later but I just didn't have it in me to think about it right now.
He was already there at my locker when I entered through the school doors, leaning his head on it, his eyes closed as if he was tired.
"Why wouldn't you pick up your phone last night?" He mumbled, sensing my presence before I had the chance to say anything. His eyes slowly opened, looking at me through his lashes, brows knitted in a frown.
"Get out of my way." I said, looking anywhere but his face. My nails seemed interesting today for some reason.
"Answer my question and I might." He challenged. Instead of denying to answer it I gave him just what he wanted. Except that he might not like what he got.
I took a step forward and said what I had to say before I changed my mind, "I went to the bell tower. Found a hot guy there. Talked to him. Had fun." I shrugged. Now that I was closer to him I saw the black bags under his eyes, the way his hair looked just like Ashton's did last night except there was no wind today and the creased white shirt he was trying to hide with his jacket as if he hadn't cared and just thrown it on.
Romeo sucked in his bottom lip, biting it in the process and succeeding in distracting the fuck out of me , "Tell me that's a lie."
I cleared my throat, licking my bottom lip, "Do I look like I'm lying?"
"You hung out with a stranger?" He seemed annoyed. I liked it. Maybe I wasn't over last night's events just yet.
"Who said he was a stranger?" I asked, lightly pushing him away from the locker so that I could have access to it.
"Can you please not answer my question with a question, Juliet?"
"Can you please not call me Juliet?" I demanded, shoving my books into the locker.
"We're back to that now?" He rubbed his forehead, easing the crease set in between his brows.
"Are we done here? Cause I have a class to get to." I quipped, staring him dead in the eyes. He gave a slight nod, the corners of his lips turned down and stepped out of my way.
All I could focus on from that little encounter we had was how he hadn't apologized.
He was protective of his family, I got that but that didn't stop the hurt I was feeling because at the end of the day I didn't even do anything, his grandmother did. I knew I created trouble everywhere I went but this time it wasn't me.
