I followed Clary as she stepping into the City of Bones. I didn't want anyone from the Institute to know I was here, but Clary just so happened to be going the same time I was so now I have to keep hidden.
I stayed back, waiting until after one of the Silent Brothers came to Clary and took her away toward Jace.
And now, finally, after hiding for what felt like forever, she left the place.
"What is your business here, Shadowhunter?" The Silent Brother asked me.
"I am here to see Jace Wayland." He took me back, walking through the creepy halls until we came upon some cells. A man in the first cell jumped forward, trying to get my attention, but I didn't let it bother me as I continued walking.
I was on a mission.
We reached Jace's cell and surprise crossed his features. "Hello, Jace. Before you say anything, you will listen." I was trying to keep my anger in control. I was hurt by what Jace had kept from me and from what he told Valentine. It hurt to know that he'd betray me, even if we didn't know each other well. He stepped forward. "I need answers." He nodded. "Why didn't you tell me about my brother? I've been having dreams of him being alive, and I know you didn't know that but you knew he was alive and you said nothing."
He sighed, running a hand through his golden hair, "I didn't believe him, I didn't trust him enough. Why would I tell you something that could be wrong? Just to get your hopes up and kill them? That's exactly what Valentine wanted if he was lying. But I don't know. I was going to learn more beforehand."
I wanted to believe him, but after the lies and secrets, I just couldn't find it in myself.
"Fine, now, my biggest question of all," I stepped forward. "Why, in all that is holy, would you tell Valentine the one secret I had, that would give him exactly what he wanted." My voice started to raise. "Why would you give him the one secret I kept from him for my entire life? The one thing that could help him get what he wants. The one thing that I never gave him, after being beaten, and tortured, and thrown around like trash for? I went through 14 years of abuse and more to keep that secret. And in only a couple weeks of knowing you all, you let it out."
"It was to protect Clary!" He yelled. "He had his knife to her throat, drawing blood, he wanted to know something and he wanted to know it then. So I gave him something I honestly thought he already knew. He wouldn't listen to me when I told him repeatedly that I didn't know anything about you. I don't regret what I did." His voice was cold, hard.
My hand slipped through the bars and slapped him as hard as I could.
When I pulled back, I looked to Enoch, the Silent Brother, "I'm done here."
