Prefect Duties

"Yeah, it is kinda fun," Remus nodded as they walked through the corridors.

"Weird, though," Lily added. "I'm still getting my head around the fact we can actually duct points from students who aren't other prefects."

"As long as we don't abuse our power."

"I saw the Slytherin prefects doing it. Diamond Lennox, the female Ravenclaw prefect, and Andy Henriques, the male Hufflepuff prefect and her boyfriend, faced them up the other day."

"Really? They faced up to Jackson Agar and Melanie Leighton?"

"Yeah. The faces of those Slytherins, it was priceless! But then it started getting physical, Andy and Jackson dropped their wands and started throwing punches. Melanie was cheering them on but Diamond pulled them apart."

"When was this?"

"Five pm, Wednesday."

"Two days ago? Oh, when I was trying to stop James and Sirius filling the Slytherin common room with custard, right. No wonder I didn't see it."

"Potter and Black are mad," Lily sighed. "I might find their troublemaking ways somewhat humorous if they didn't bully Sev. They hex people for fun, Remus, for FUN! You have to stop them!"

"It's harder than you think, "Remus said. "Besides, even if I don't appreciate what they do to other people, they help me."

"With what?"

"With ..." Remus bit his lip.

You can trust Lily, he thought. Come on, you can tell her about you being a werewolf. Your friends didn't think you were a freak when they found out, someone as kind as understanding as Lily would never criticise your lycanthropy. She accepts those who are different!

But no matter how hard he would try, the words wouldn't come out. "With, with all sorts of things!" Remus finished desperately. "And they cheer me up when I'm feeling down. We help each other through school life. Your friends do that, right? Well, that's what James, Sirius and Peter mean to me."

Lily felt as though Remus had changed his mind last-minute over what he was going to say. She furrowed her brow, but didn't press him on the subject.
