Naomi's POV
I could feel someone squeezing my hand and I could hear them crying. I felt like I knew who it was but I couldn't connect the dots to whom it could possibly be. It was frustrating having someone hold your hand and crying but not being able to open your eyes to see who it was. I tried. I really did, but they just wouldn't open.
"I love you." The minute I heard them speak I knew who it was. Then the words resonated. I could hear a beeping sound get louder and I figured it was my heart motor. I remember waking up and freaking out because I had to see Bennett.
"I love you, Naomi." I slowly opened my eyes, letting them get used to the lights. I looked around the room until I focused on Jordan. He was sitting there smiling softly with red eyes and a tear stained face.
"I-" I coughed. I placed my hand on my throat, it was so dry. "Water." I croaked out and rubbed my throat.
"Oh." He stood up and pushed a button by my bed, then he walked out only to come back a second later with a paper cup in hand. I started to sit up only to wince and hiss at the pain shooting up my back. "Here let me help you!" Jordan helped me sit up and he even fixed my pillow so I could lean against it. "Here's your water." He handed me the paper cup and sat back down.
I took a sip and then downed the whole cup. It felt like my throat was a dessert and it finally rained. "Thank you." I coughed slightly but it was easier to speak. Jordan opened his mouth just as a Doctor- I'm guessing by the white coat he was wearing -walked in.
He looked at me and smiled, "Ah you're awake!" No, I'm dead asleep.
I nodded leaning back more. "Well I'm Dr. Wendell and I'll be taking care of you during your stay here." He smiled checking my pulse and writing something down.
"What are you doing?" I spoke so softly I thought he wouldn't be able to hear me but he smiled once again and said "I'm checking your vitals."
I nodded leaning forward a little. It was quiet as he checked the machines around me and myself. I could feel Jordan's stare but I just looked ahead focusing on the plain wall.
"Bennett! A car!"
It replayed in my head, bringing me back. The headlights were so bright and blinding.
"Okay!" Dr. Wendell clapped his hands together, snapping me out of my head. I looked at him to see him smiling brightly at me. "All your vitals are good and if this keeps up then you'll be out of here before you know it! Do you have any questions?"
"Yeah," I nodded, sitting up more. "There was someone else in the car with me, his name is Bennett Frazier, is um he okay?" I fiddled with the blanket pooled around my waist.
"He's alive, if that's what your asking." I looked up at him. He looked distant somehow. "But I think your boyfriend should tell you the details, if you'll excuse me." He nodded turning to the door. He patted Jordan's shoulder as he walked out the door.
I looked at Jordan. He was fidgeting in his seat, avoiding my gaze. "Jordan?" He looked down shaking his head. "Jordan." He sighed, shaking his head, "You don't want to know."
I glared at his head and I could feel my nostrils flare, "I was in a damn crash with him and 'I don't want to know' how he's doing?"
"No, no that's not what I meant." His head snapped up and he shook his hands in front of him, almost like I was going to hurt him and he was begging me to stay back. "I mean- agh!" He groaned, pulling at his hair.
I rolled my eyes, "Spit it out before I kick you out."
"He's- um not doing too well." I looked in his eyes to see nothing but pain and truth. "He was placed in intensive care." I could feel my eyes sting and a lump form in my throat. He should be the one awake and I should be the one intensive care.
