It’s been an hour since Pao left and I haven’t heard from Nicholas yet. I’ve finished everything I have so I don’t have anything to do and I’m the only one left here in the production area, so I think I’ll just visit him in his office.
Niligpit ko ang mga gamit ko at dumeretso sa office niya. I entered his office but he doesn’t seem to notice me so I knocked. Then I got his attention from whatever he’s doing in his laptop and he looked startled when he saw me. He quickly looked at his wristwatch.
“Oh god I’m sorry I didn’t notice the time!” I smiled at his tired and stressed look.
“It’s okay! I just finished my things too.”
May notification na tumunog sa laptop niya at agad niya iyong tinignan.
“U-uhm Thea… I’m really sorry, I have to take care of this. Give me 10 more minutes.”
“Not a problem! I’ll meet you outside.” Then I smiled.
I went out and sat at the sofa in the reception area and waited there. And then he showed up after almost 15 minutes.
“Thea… I’m so sorry you have to wait that long…” alalang-alala niyang sabi. And he looks so tired. And dami niya siguro talagang ginawa.
“Hey no, it’s okay, I understand!”
He puts his hand in my shoulder.
“Thank you, Thea, I appreciate it.” Then smiled.
Ngumiti din ako at inalis niya na ang pagkakahawak niya sa balikat ko.
“So… let’s go?” I nodded and then we head out.
Bumyahe kami papunta sa restaurant na ni-reserve ng mom niya, at pagkarating doon ay nandoon na ang mom siya at naghihintay samin.
“You’re finally here!” exhausted yet cheerfully welcomed us. Mukang kanina pa siya nandito.
“Happy Birthday son!” then kissed Nicholas in his cheeks. “Thea I’m glad you’re here!” at nakipag-beso sakin.
“I’m so sorry mom we’re late!”
“It’s okay! Com’on let’s have a sit!”
We all sat at the table reserved for us, then the waiter started to serve us wine followed by the first menu. We all begin to eat, and his mom opened some topic to chat about.
“Your father wants to send you his greetings, he said he’s sorry he can’t come. He needs to stay in the US for the business.”
“It’s fine. So, how’s the business going?” he asked while slicing his steak.
“Well, nothing much changed. But he closed temporarily the LA branch until the manager returns, he can’t manage them all at once.”
“Oh.” he said avoiding to talk about it more.
“I told you your father needs you there.”
“And I told you I have a job here.”
Hindi na sinagot ng mom niya ang sinabi niyang iyon, at binaling naman sakin ang pansin upang mapalitan ang pag-uusapan.
“I heard you’re doing an excellent job out there.” She said trying to compliment me. Kanino niya naman kaya ‘yan narinig? Well, kanino pa ba? Haha.
“Well, I have an excellent boss, that’s why.” Then gazed at Nicholas.
He looked at me and smirked proudly, “And who’s that?”
“Oh? It’s Mrs. Balancio (our Site Manager), why?” I teasingly said. Kala mo ikaw ha! Hahahah!
“Nah, nah… just wanna confirm if it’s really Mrs. Balancio.” Sakay niya pa sa biro ko. Natatawa lang din ang mom niya habang pinapakinggan kaming dalawa.
