Sitting in the living room in her own home, Y/n felt more uncomfortable and awkward than she ever had in her entire life.

Jimin on her left side glared heavily over at Jackson, seated on her right. How had this happened, again?

Oh yes.

The evening had started off normally enough. Her parents had expressed their desire for a date night so she had sent them off. ‪Friday night‬, at home, dressed in more layers than needed, responsibly finishing up her homework so that she would have the weekend free (to study more), and babysitting her kid sister. Her life was the opposite of mundane. She was living the high life!

...now go back and read that in a sarcastic tone.

High life, low life, whatever you would call it, it was the life Y/n was comfortable with. Maybe somewhat tiresome, what with listening to the baby shark song 500 times in a row and Rosie's constant, "Unnie watch dis!"

"Unnie watch dis!!!" For the umpteenth time Y/n shifted her attention from the physics paper she was working on to watch Rosie perform a somersault.

After applauding and oooing and awing over how amazing that was, she moved back to the more important work at hand.

It wasn't easily finished while being climbed on like a jungle gym. Three times she saved the toddler from breaking her neck with a quick hand and mommy instincts, but that was all in a day's work for a big sister.

Finally finished, she put everything away and stood to stretch. A squeak of the couch springs was all that alerted her to the next disaster. Turning quickly, she caught Rosie mid-air as she flew backwards from the couch.

Sometimes she wondered if the kid was trying to kill herself.

"Yay, Unnie!!" Unaware of any danger, the toddler cheered from her upside down position.

"Rosie, it's time for bed."

"Nooooo!! Imma big gurl, I don't need it."

"Alright," she sighed and put her sister back on her feet. Drooping her shoulders, she shuffled away, feigning sadness. "I guess if you aren't going to be a good girl, then you don't need a bedtime story. Sad. I thought big girls went to bed without a fuss."

"Unnie!!" Y/n tried not to smile at the little hands tugging at the ends of her shirt. "Unnie, I good! I want stories! I go ta bed!"

Pretending to wipe away tears, she looked down at the little girl's worried expression.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes!" Grabby hands were made in her direction, a bid to be picked up.

"You'll be good?"

"Yes!"

"Oh...ok then. If you're sure." Once Rosie was back in her arms the toddler gave her the sloppiest kiss that left a large, wet imprint.

"Unnie, don't be sad. I lub you too mush." The rest of the way to bed was spent enduring Rosie's highly affectionate kisses and another round of the baby shark song. Y/n would never wish harm on anybody, but sometimes she wished she could find who wrote that song so as to send them a strongly worded letter.

The pink walls of the toddler's bedroom seemed to shine brightly, despite the dim lighting of the small lamp at her bedside. Once in her pj's she was tucked in, wild curls spilling across the pillow, a sippy cup under one arm and a pair of sleepy eyes blinking up at her expectantly. The sight of her little sister appearing so adorable without even trying made her heart thump with fondness.
